Best TV detent cable??

Hi all.

My 87 is in getting a trans rebuild and hes asked if i can order an original GM cable as its got a universal one on and he said it's broken.

I'm in the UK and everything I'm searching comes back with these aftermarket adjustable cables like what is on the car.

Anybody know where is best to get an original throttle valve cable from? Thanks

Maybe the gentleman tagged can help you out.
Apparently, it's not a one size fits all application.
He's been known to sell bits of his parts stash!

Re: Best TV detent cable??

Sadly true, been through it before (even in the USA). The aftermarket TV cables are crap. GM OEM cable its the only one I'd trust. Sadly, I am not sure if you can find one anymore.

So as far as aftermarkets go, its a pita.

If the TV cable is not an exact fit, it will not actuate the transmissions throttle valve correctly resulting in **** poor shifts, or out-right catastrophic damage to the transmission.

Re: Best TV detent cable??

Well I've done a bit of review reading and I've ordered a pioneer cable from rock auto. Seen good reviews of this one on various pages and it looks exactly like the original cable.

The other cheaper one listed had poor reviews with the plastic casing cracking and stuff so hopefully this one is the ticket

Just be aware that there are different lengths despite their similar appearances.
One might not necessarily replace another.

Re: Best TV detent cable??

The transmission guy confirmed it was the 44" cable which is what this one is. So that's a promising start I guess. Ha ha
