700r4 to TH350 crossmember question

Hi guys! I know this has been beat to death but I'm curious about my particular situation for my 85'.

I'm swapping to my dad's TH350 with a 6" tailshaft. I know this requires me to get a longer driveshaft. My question is, with the 6" tailshaft and longer driveshaft, does this allow me to still use the stock cross-member as if I had a TH350 with the 9" tailshaft instead? I might get an updated cross-member with the torque arm relocation, but I just want to explore my options! Thank you in advance.

Re: 700r4 to TH350 crossmember question

AFAIK no. The mount is in the same place regardless of the extension housing & output shaft length.

There used to be a thing you could buy that added a torque arm mount, a little plate sort of deal that went between the case and the EH. Haven't seen it for many a year though. I'm kinda thinking you'll be looking at an aftermarket crossmember at this point.

I don’t think so, it’s in his 79’ currently. I presume I’ll have to get the conversion kit as far as the mount goes for sure.

Re: 700r4 to TH350 crossmember question

You need a crossmember from an '82-83 that had a TH200c. As far as the torque arm, you'll need to fab some type of bracket. The TH200c does NOT have a removeable tailshaft housing. The F body units had the mount cast right into the trans body.

I realize this advice probably will be ignored, but you would be better off keeping that 700R4 and just keep it working right the way it was designed.

Stock crossmember will work assuming you can find one of these:

i had one, made by B&M, but sold it when I pulled my TH350 and swapped in a T-5.
