4l80e pump install problem

I am hoping to finish up the rebuild on my 4l80e, stock rebuild and I have replaced all wear items or anything that’s questionable. I was going
to Install the pump to check my input shaft clearance and I could not get the pump to seat. Took the OD carrier out and pulled the shaft to try and install just the shaft into the pump. It goes together with the help from a rubber mallet. Once it’s together the shaft will not spin. After removing it, the teflon seals are fine. I have installed new bearings in the pump, using an arbor press.

This is my first auto trans rebuild, so I am trying to learn as I go through this process. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 4l80e pump install problem

The problem is the bushing in the pump body is too tight on the input shaft. Flipping it around the bushing in the stator goes together just fine.

In one of the manuals I am referencing it states 3 different bushings and one 97-up must be fitted. I assume that’s what I got.

Do any of you all know what kind of clearance that bushing needs?

I'd ask this same question over on ls1tech in the transmissions section. Lots of guys use 4l80's over there. Not so much here

The bushing in the pump was not drove in square. Once that was corrected everything was good.
