Looking for a reliable 700 that can handle at least 600hp and reliable. Any good leads on reputable builders. I know it's been asked b4 but there's always some new guys popping up in this day in age that might b more reliable then other previous builders mentioned
He is the Builder that designed everything for Performabuilt Transmissions, that has now started a new business.
Great Guy and even greater Transmissions!!!
Amazing prices!
He ships to you, and you send your Transmission Core back to him in the same crate.
Or if you want your Transmission Redone, He will do that too, but turn-around time takes a little longer to ship both ways!

Tell him: "Chello from GM Engineering sent you"!
Yea I'll check him out, see what he has going on do u have a link u could pass me seems like there's a couple of franks out there

any decent transmission shop should be able to do that.
most of the internals get swapped out for aftermarket parts and you can have a quite stout 700/4l60

Thing is, as as my transmissions have had to evolve, some shops are definitely better equipped than others.
Read up on what Frank is doing to the fluid circuits on these things. It's mind boggling. The hard parts are one thing. The transmission before this had a host of quality parts.
But somewhere along the way, the necessary mods for fluid redirection and optimization weren't followed. That's the sort of thing that even a "decent" shop might not be aware of.
I'm hoping the builder of my current transmission did a better than the builder of my previous transmission. The hard parts are the same. The execution I hope, is not. The last one ended up with fused 3/4 clutch pack.

Yea no doubt I was contemplating doing this. Hardened internals but was really hoping to get a link to some one selling solid units as I would like to drop the old one and keep as spare. Seems like just like everything else claims are made of beefed up units with better bands hardened internals modified valve bodies but the units don't last. I have to look into the link set above as distribution of fluids is interesting. Pretty much just looking for a solid unit that can take a beating.

This is interesting I need to take a deeper dive into this. I'm not a tranny guy there simple but complex at the same time

I did a fair amount of research into yet another replacement for the 700R4/4L60 that ate itself up.
While I eventually settled on a local builder, I was very much considering Gearstar. Their level 4 version has all of the internals that I built my previous spec around. The only reason I didn't go with them was the logistics of international shipping as well as distance. (I'm in western Canada).
If you follow that link and scroll down you'll come to the spec sheet. I think it would be everything you need. They also provide a suitable converter which is a bonus.
Excellent tech support too based on the couple of conversations I had.
Something else to consider is a move to an "E" version of the 4L60. It would require a stand alone transmission controller but life is much easier with that modern upgrade.
No TV cable. Life is good.

I have heard good things about gear star and there representation. I had previously been checking there builds on the 700rs. Same with pro built autos. I will b purchasing from one of these builders as they do seem to hold some volume as I have been referred to both from multiple sources. As for the 4l60e I hear you on that for sure. Pretty much when I got this car pre COVID I gutted the interior and she was ragged up and did suspension upgrades as it was much needed I'm getting close to pulling it out and gutting the engine bay the plan is to throw a 427 in it. The 350 that was put in it is cammed but I have no info on the internals at this point I need to really figure out what I wanna do with her. Probably gonna aim for a drag and drive. This is really my first true build. As a teenager I had a 4th gen slp package cammed with steeper gears. Always been into turning wrenches and putting down power but as I dive deeper and get older i would like to take it a step further. And not just burn tires but actually learn how to put down the power proper. I know the suspension I got now is not the greatest so it will have to be updated. Honestly it's a rabbit hole in itself lol. Gears always trying in the head. I appreciate your response and information. I rarely use the Internet and don't have social media so this is really my only interaction with people online. Otherwise the info I get is local and passed to me from word of mouth. So it ****in cool to have access to this community and guys like yourself who have been working these car for decades
Wasn't Dana at ProBuilt Transmissions supposed to be one of THE 700r4 guys? Art Carr retired, and Dana was a genious with these.
Yes. He was. Or still is?
I thought Dana had retired but I just checked out his website and he still seems very much active.
His contributions here at thirdgen are always welcomed and insightful.
