Pic Request, and Shift kit questions...
Well, my transmission is officially buying the farm... Its kinda working like a slipping, sliding Powerglide... i.e. no 3rd and OD, and 1st and 2nd slip like crazy, not to mention I think the TC has turned into mush inside.. heh.
Anyways, givin the fact that I am getting my taxes back soon, and I can go ahead and afford some car goodies, I figured I might as well buy a shifter while Im doing the transmission.
I havent quite made my mind up as if I want the Hammer, or the Megashifter. I like the looks of both, but it appears the Hammer is more of a general application style shifter while I can buy the 3rdgen model if I go the Megashifter route.. also, is the Hammer a ratcheting shifter?
Any pics you guys have of your aftermarket shifters in car would be apperciated as well as experience with them, how they are holding up, etc...
Basically, right now Im looking at going with the B&M Transkit, and going witht he "street/strip" install, anyone have this and know how hard it shifts, etc? Im looking for something that will snap my neck back, and just all in all perform better...
Im also going to go ahead and buy a new TC, Im thinking a 2200-2400 stall is about right for now.. what TCs are you guys running?
Opinions? Ideas? Comments?

I just put this sucker in my car
still need to make a plate to finish it off.

No problems with it yet and it's very solidly built. Friend of mine has the Megashifter, he likes it and hasn't had any problems. It's a bit easier to operate for everyday driving too.

Got it from my buddy that decided he didn't want his TH400 anymore, brand new in the box I got the shifter for $200. Also got the TH400 for 100 bucks lol (just a core) He's switching to an already built-up PowerGlide for his '66 Chevelle.
As for shiftkits... TransGo. For shifters I'm not sure, maybe the Megashifter or the Sportshifter, but I don't really like T-shifters I like cue-ball types, but there isnt any. Hey is it possible to use the stock stick shifter, but still be able to "bang" the gears with like some mechanical readjustments or something??
How exactly does the Megashifter work? Whats the deal with that piece in front of the shifter, ya know that metal piece attached to a small rod?? How is it possible that I can bang the gear as hard as I want and it won't move out of place, but then I can shift it to the next gear later??? How these shifters work?? A little 101 please.

That metal piece in front of the shifter is the reverse, park lockout. I had a megashifter in my 89. to put the shifter into ratchet mode you bring it down past neutral then bang it back 3 times. The shifter handle stays in the same place, it is controlled by the springs on the ratchet mech. once in 4th and you're stopped, you lift up on the little handle and can go into R,D,or P.

Please stay away from the B&M shift kits. Trans-Go is the only way to go. Give Dana at Pro Built a call. I am sure that he will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about your transmission. Now get off the computer and get to work!!
