changing tranny fluid

i have an 85' Z28 it only has 42K on it and the tranny fluid appears to be fine (bright red) the level is fine too. I just woundering how often you guys change your fluid. If it is fine, i would just assume not mess with it. Transmissions kind of scare me Also, if the car sits most of the time, are there any bad things that can happen to the tranny fluid? The car only is driven regularly 4 months of the year.

According to GM you should change it every 30k.

I change mine every 7500 or so. Going off memory, , I think that's what the manual calls for.

the car owners manual says.... 100,000 miles, every 30,000 if under heavy use.

as it says 6,000 for oil and 3,000 if under heavy use (i have always done it every 3000.)

the rear axle fluid is the same as the tranny.

even tho i really don't beat on this car at all... i think i will go by the heavy use sugestion.

anyways, im still open to sugestion if you guys have other opinions

If it looks good & smells ok, leave it alone!
