How much punishment will a t-5 take?
How much punishment will a t-5 take?
I have built a 383 stroker that puts out 427hp and 491tq.
I have put it all together and just about ready to start it for the first time, and I have just now thought about my poor trans.
Can any body tell me if this t-5 is going to hold up or am I stupid to even try it.

it's too much motor for the tranny but if you take it real easy and avoid any shockloading, it will last awhile. You won't be able to do much high performance driving though.
I believe even the world class t-5s are only rated at a little over 300. I would say dont powershift definately. I would just kind of take it a bit easy on it until you can afford the new one.
I have found some information on http://www.ttcautomotive.com/
It shows torque ratings for each. And unless the t-56 is underated
I don't believe it will hold up either. Although it will have a much better chance. Has anyone ever tried to build-up a t-5, do they even make better internals for higher performance.

This is not from personal experience, but from what I have heard, if you get a t56 from 94-97 they are strong. I know that some of the fourth gen guys run a lot more through them. I would ask some guys over at www.camaroz28.com if you are thinking about a t56. There are a lot of fourthgen guys over there with a lot of experience with that tranny.

we all know you won't be able to keep you foot off it.a tremic 5spd is good but i think the doug nash 5spd is better.we have that behind a small block that was dyno at 449hp with 3:55 gears and that car rocks:rockon:
VSCOTT, The T-56 will take the punishment. Look at what they are run in:
Ram-air Ls1
SS Camaro
Z06s
Viper
Although some internal changes are made for some of these applications, you would be hard pressed to break one. Well, that is unless you're doing 6000rpm launches with slicks

the C5s run a transaxle and the t56 is bolted right to the rear differential. A torgues tube with driveshaft runs from the back of the motor to the tans which is bolted to the diff. it's not a getrag, it's made by tremec. the C4 6 speed cars were made by ZF in germany.

i think it still has ~51% on the front wheels, but that's pretty damn good. i bet moving the battery to the rear would solve that! the transaxle idea came from the porsche front engine cars like the 928 and 968 I think.
