6k should be good. I don't think I've ever gone above 5500. My Sunpro tach swings (if I recall correctly) to 8000 rpm.

Mine will tac up to 8 as well, and I have the red indicator set at 5200. The tranny shifts the engine at 5K.

Check the Chilton's manual - it shows the tach hooking to the pink wire from the distributor (notthe pink wire from the wiring harness). Looks to me, if you have CrossFire Ing. a regular tach ain't gona work.

you hook the tach to the white wire that is in the same plug as a pink wire on your coil. The pink wire powers the coil and the white wire is the tach signal.

Actually, it's a black/white wire (on the gray connector), but, same thing. Think twice before using the blue splice connector to tap into the wire. My splice connector wound up cutting thru 99% of the copper strands in that black/white wire, and almost left me stranded.

To fix it, I cut the harness wire in half, and stripped back the insulation on both sides. I crimped a non-insulated butt terminal over one end of the harness wire. Then I twisted the tach wire with the remaining harness wire end, and crimped the two into the butt connector. Then I added solder to the ends, and taped it all up.

'Course you could just peel back a bit of the insulation and twist the tach wire onto the harness wire and then solder/tape the joint...

What kind of tachometer did you buy?

The white wire only goes to the tach so you can just cut it and add your new wire. Cutting it will not leave you stranded.
