1996, no mods, poorly running engine- 16.87
2001, modded a lot, engine running great- 17.4

It's gotta be the mileage (+200,000 miles)!

Well I have an 86 camaro, A/C delete, rear seat delete, smog delete, spare tire and jack delete (for the track), autolite plugs, new wires (crap), blue streak cap and rotor, accel super coil, gutted catt converter, better flowing Y-pipe, gutted air boxes and air lid, cleaned out TB and MAF, I also took off the steel wheels and put on Z-28 aluminum wheels, along with a 700 r4 and some descent gears. With that and a few problems still I have a 0-60 time of 8 seconds and my head gaskets just went out so I am going to replace those and port the intake and heads and put a flowmaster muffler on and I hope to run a 16. I also have NO power options at all, no GFX no nothin

Am i the only one who has V6 anguish?? The amount of money put into a V6 to get it into the 13's can be put into a V8 and make it go 11's... its a waste of $$ to fix a V6 up... just go for a big block! If someone can argue, please do.. change my mind about my dinky little V6 that is pushing high 16's...

You are right HOWEVER for a few grand you can make a 383 small block on a high 10 with nitrous. Big blocks take a lot of work to get in and suck up a lot of gas just going around ten and I will be happy with my low 11 high 10 on a good day when I get my 383 built up. ALSO I have a beautiful artic white 86 sport coupe with a 2.8 and a auto tranny and 3.42 gears and they all have 135k miles. Untill yesterday I was runing a 0-60 time of 8 seconds flat and the right lower brake shoe is not adjusted right so part of it is touching the brake drum 24/7, the MAF was going bad along with the head gaskets and they just let loose yesderday and that was quite scary, I also have a cold air sensow that is going bad. I took the steel wheels off and added aluminum Z-28 wheels, pulled the A/C, smog pulled, pulled the rear seats, and the spare and the jack, I also have NO power options, no GFX and no fog lights, so with those problems I was going that fast, not bad ehh? When it comes to mods I have autolite plugs, crapy wires, blue streak cap and rotor, accel super coil, high flow y-pipe, gutted cat converter, gutted air boxes and air lid. All in all this cost me 100 for the wheels and 50 bucks for the ignitions and the gutted catt and y-pipe where free.
Soon the car will have the insulation under the carpet pulled, a fiperglass hood put on and a aluminum radiator, this will get me right at the 3,000 pound mark and will be mods for the 383 also.
In a few weeks the intake plenium will be completley ported and polished for free and for the new 3.4 and I will have a 3.4 v-6 that will get a crane cam, and ported heads (free) and that will all in all cost me ohh $500 and I can use the same tranny and exhaust and everything hooks up. With this set up I will have around a grand invested and be runing a mid to low 15 second quarter mile and the hood and radiator will me considerd 383 mods. Also the 2000 camaro with the 3.8 v-6, auto tranny, air lid, flowmaster and msd wires runs the quarter in 15.2 YOU DO THE MATH, if you play with the shift points it will tap into the high 14 range. Here I am I got a car for 15 hundered and invested a grand and taped into the mid 15's when a 2000 and newer camaro v-6 runs only a half second beter.
David
P.S. In most camaro clubs 13's are considered slow and they are laughed at, 11's are fast.
16's are easy with a 2.8 I did it with a meesly 50 bucks.
Also with some NOS you can get a 3.8 into the 13's easy.
Why go big block when you can make a FI 383 go LOW 11 high ten with a few grand. My 2.8 right now beats up on 3.1's all the time and I have beaten my buddy in his TBI 4.3 v-6 even though its a POS
You can also get a 4.3 to run 13 second quarter miles pretty cheap
The 1994 Porsche 911 turbo runs a 11.8 from the factory and its a 6 banger, the rest of the porsches are 4 bangers and they will eat most cars for lunch, the only thing that matters is how much air and fuel you can get in the cylinders.
