TH350 with a 2.8??

Hey guyz....really quick question on this matter...I have come across a rebuilt TH350 from a buddy of mine for a rather cheap price...$250...However...would this bolt up into my 2.8...Also...would it improve my car's acceleration and performance or hinder it...Just wondering if anyone in here has ever done this cause I don't know of anyone who has...Thanx for the input...

like 85 said (the other 85..lol) it won't bolt up to your tranny and you'd lose the over drive....the 700R4 is a very nice tranny...but ours is setup for a v6 of 60* not the 90* v6 or v8's although the same internals are used in the v8 transmissions and the 90* v6 trannies. Onwards, a 700r4 can be a very respectable transmission too, and work great for super hard and firm shifts w/o being a hand grenade, get a shift kit (transgo is recommended) a vette servo, and a larger boost valve (to raise the line pressure) after all of that you're car will be hitting hard and chirping second gear....and i'm speaking from first hand experience. But in short....no the TH-350 will not work with our block, so therefore it can't produce any performance gains sorry bout that, now if you're looking to do a v8 swap in the future (and don't mind not having an OD) then i'd say buy it, let it sit, or build it, then slap your v8 on it, or you could alwyas pick it up cheap, and see if you can sell it for more (think ebay) buy for 250 sell for say 300-400 and be good with it. Good luck with whatever you choose.

One is faced with the choice/purchase of used parts all the time.
What you need is parts for the 60* V-6 as mentioned.
Rebuild the proper tranny.
I am paying about $500-ish for a rebuild.
I paid $600 for one installed & rebuilt, too.
Don't invest in the TH350, unless you know of one to purchase it for a profit from ya.
Ever ship a tranny?
Know how expensive that is?

Thanx guyz

Thanx alot guyz...in fact I just had my 700R4 done last october....cost about 800 because I had totally beaten the crap out of it...I was just wondering because I just was...but as I am still learning I wasn't too sure on the whole thing...However...I was wondering how some of you guyz adjust your tranny...Cause the repair manual is full of it...whenever I do it that way...I'm shifting into second at 10 and third at 15...but when I adjust it with highest throttle pressure its fine but shifts a little hard (however...with a stock 2.8 and only 2 mods being a flowmaster and k&n it smokes off the line which surprised me)...well...any inpout on that would be great...if not I'll try the tranny board and see what they have to say...Thanx again

I have taken back to them...they did a great job rebuilding it and all...however...I have run across a couple problems that I have no idea why they couldn't fix...my main problem was my torque converter wasn't locking up...remedy to that was pluggin in the TCC...and I don't know why it shifts a little hard...but I'll work at that...no way am I gonna let those guyz try and touch anything again...good at rebuilding...no good at diagnosing...

If I was going to go auto, I would chose a th350 over a 700r4.
Buy built TCi th350 for around 800.00 2500 stall and do some pedal work. change it to a 3/4 or 1/2. instead of pushing 4 inches for full throttle. go 3, 2 3/4 just an example.

Nope...that isn't at WOT...but it also isn't at a low throttle...I'd say 1/4 of the way down maybe...Anywayz...I finally adjusted it and when I push it i can hit 2nd at around 30 and third at around 60 then I'll ease up and drop it into OD...and yea...my tires are good...I have no idea how I was smoking off the line...I wasn't even power braking it...it hasn't done it since so I suppose it was one of those things that comes and goes...Well I'm off right now to go clean her up and get her ready for a local cruise night...

Sounds like you got one of those tranny shops.
It sucks.
I took mine to court.
I only hope during the LA riots, they got their building burnt down and business destroyed.
Bad trannys shops suck big time.
Go find another shop to fix your problems.
Ask for suggestions.
This tranny shop I've found, does great stock rebuilds.
No shift kit or anything like that. Just does a few upgrades to stock internals to make it right.
I can drive my 74 Corvette if I want a great TH400 style tranny.
I don't want to be concerned with excessive wear on my u joints & such because it barks between upshifts all the time. That gets expensive at 6 u-joints in a Corvette rear ya know! And that's the cheapest part

I hear that Karl...I'm gonna try to keep adjusting for about another week...and if its not where I want it then I'll go back there and bitch them out...I did it once already when the guy gave me lip about bringing it back or something...He's not too fond of me...If not...i'll go find a place that will look at it and diagnose it cheaply...and the warranty is up soon so I can't keep fooling around with it anywayz...Well...talk to you guyz lata

JP85, you should put a tachometer on your car; that'll help you figure out shift points better. Did they put a rebuild trans in, or did they rebuild yours? The governor is the main unit that controls shift points on the trans; maybe they didn't put your original governor back into the rebuilt-by-another-company trans. But you'll need a tach to determine the shift points. It could be that your car is shifting normally! Ever drive another v6 fbody with an automatic?

You shouldn't use the TV cable to adjust your shift points. You could go a bit in either direction from the "correct" adjustment, but you can't go adjusting the TV way out of spec!

And they didn't plug the TCC cable in when you first picked the car up? The jokers at Lee Myles ($1300 for a trans that lasted a year and a half) did that with my trans. I pulled over after driving for 5 minutes; I could tell my TCC wasn't locking- sure enough, I had to plug the cable back in.

Guzy...thanx for helping...Tom...I do have a tach (gotta love the optional rally gauge package)...and everything is shifting fine right now...Just a little too rough...that'll be straightened out within the week...the reason my shift points were off...or so I thought they were off is because my speedo reads 5 miles slower than what i'm going...Speedo says 10 and the tranny is shifting while its really 15...thats what was mainly screwing me up...didn't even think about it 'til I had one of those portable radars clock me in the middle of no where...but also to answer some of Tom's questions...the tranny was rebuilt...for the second time might I add...Should I have gone with a rebuilt tranny out of the box....maybe...it was a little too much for my budget so I had them rebuild what I had....also...yea...my buddy has a 6 and i've driven that before...its shifts same as mine now thats its all right...like I said earlier in the paragraph...its just shifting hard now...So I figure the fluid level is low or something...cause the shift points are dead on where they are supposed to be...and one final question before I go...the governor...is this the thing that limits my speed...cause I wasn't sure if the car had one or not...or is it just something that controls the way my tranny shift...Thanx again guyz...
