Ram Air vs Cold Air

I'm about to buy my new hood and i still can't decide to go with an original hood or the ram air like i wanted to and get the kit from suncoast to make it functional.Someone told me last night that if i rigged up a cold air intake instead i would get better results because ram air doesn't take effect until u hit about 40 mph.Anyone know which is better?

Well their function is pretty much the same in that Ram air "rams" cold air from outside the car into the intake and a cold air system pulls cold air into the intake. Which works better? On our cars my vote would go to ram air as many of the cold air systems are still pulling air from inside the engine compartment. But Ramair is much more expensive and I'm not sure if the gains from a few degrees colder would justify the extra cost

yea that was another idea i had,to take hoses and rig them up to where air is blowing into them either from under the car or where the foglights are and have them blowing into the passenger side fender area.I'm sure feeding air to the intake wouldn't hurt cuz i read somewhere that it needs so many sq feet worth of air per sec but doesn't get nearly enough in the cramped space.Plus i'm thinking the money i would spend on the hood can be better spent and i can rig up a cold air very inexpensively......Andy

You can buy them ram air scoops for about 25 bucks each and install them your self. drill, hacksaw and some bondo. few shots of some colormatch spray paint. who would know any better.

I m going to buy a '01 SS scoop and mold it in my hood and making it functional. And re-work my CAI system to turn it into ram air. have it angled up into the scoop so it breathes better. I drew it up here at work and it looks like its going to work on paper.

Aight I got to get it scanned so everyone can see it. I have it on AutoCAD right now. Still fine tuning the drawing before I start ripping stuff apart. You know what I mean. I would like to find a straight donor hood for this project. So I can still drive my car.
