Drunk driven Saturns and third gen rears don't mix

Well I took my 83 to my buddy's shop on Thursday to do those things that are better accomplished with a lift. I repaired the A.I.R. pipe to the cataytic converter, put a new kickdown cable in, and changed the pan gasket. I was pulling out the speedometer gear housing to change the O-ring when it fell to the floor and blew apart. Meanwhile the wife calls and tells me the alternator in her buick took a dump. So we finish up, push the car out and I get a lift home. Put the alternator on --good to go. My wife insisted I ride in with her then hitch a ride with my friend from work down to the shop. I was going to take the Goat out to stretch its legs. Anyway, I get down to the shop, did the work in the lot and headed home. I'm pulling away from a light and look and my rearview and see this black saturn coming on hard and said "Oh boy, here we go" WHAM!!! right into the back of the 83!!! I pull over expecting to see smashed taillights, bent quarters etc. ALL THAT HAPPENED WAS MY BUMPER GOT BENT!!!! The saturn didn't fare as well the entire front was FUBARed . The drunk skunk gets out and says "I guess this was my bad??? I'm like "You think?" I tell her I'm going to call the cops to file a report and she says she wants to call her husband. I'm like "go ahead and call I'll call the cops". After I take down her license plate # I go to place the call (the clerk at the gas station already called) and the crazy b***h takes off!!! Delaware State Police picked her up later and arrested her for DUI and a bunch of other stuff. Anyway, just thought I'd share

Glad you and the car are ok. I swear some people... a few years ago some drunk in a Hon-duh crashes through my fence, tries to pull away but he was caught on a post. Make it even better he was off duty NYPD.

Another dumb-@ss.... Suffolk cop is chasing someone, looses it, crashes through my fence. Comes to the door and says, "I think I hit your fence". WELL DUH! The freakin patrol car is in my back yard!

i quess cops like parking there rides in your yard

I love thirdgens for that reason, they are hard to kill. A civic hit my friends 89 RS 2.8L in the wheel, broke the center cab and got a bit of paint on the quater, the civic was totaled and the guy had to pay $3500 bucks to fix his ride, while my friend got $500 from the civics insurance company to buy a center cab, go figure

Glad to hear you're alright, and that the car is still okay, too! Hell, let her insurance cover that '83. Your insurance is going to go up, either way. (Or, at least, it would go up either way if you were in NJ.) Glad to hear the car is alright- and that they caught that crazy fck and threw the book at her. Actually, I wonder if you can get the car put on a frame machine for "free" by her insurance.

Something to think about... I poked around the underside of the car on Saturday and can see I'll need a new impact bar (hey, it did what it was designed to do!) and cover. I'll see what her insurance says. Down in MD it would go up only if I was at fault. So no worries there. I'll have to see how much I get from this. I do have some bills that could be paid off, or a nice paint job on the 83. But maybe I'll paint it after I sell the 85

I got rear-ended once in my '86 'Bird by a hot chick in a Toyota Camery. The front of her Toy. was totaled, anti-freeze all over the road, hood & fenders smashed, headlights wasted, a real mess! The ONLY thing that happened to my 'bird was when her car went under my bumper, it pulled one of the rubber exhaust hangers in half, dinged my lisence plate, and a little scuff in the paint! The funniest part of this story is that she was the daughter of an insurance agent, and she had just got back from taking her state test to be an insurance agent herself And I didnt even have any insurance at the time, just the "proof" paper saying I did!!! It felt great to come out of that one squeeky clean

With the same car I hit a deer while going 60MPH. All it did was push the nose down a bit right in the middle just in front of the hood latch. I popped the hood, grabbed it, pulled up, instant fix

These F-bodies can hold up to some sh#t!!!

my v6 f body took a 40-45mph hit dead on in the left front wheel picked the car up and spun it like a top. totalled the poor thing pushed the left front in so far that the steering knuckle was sandwiched between the left fender wall and the p/s pump..and the right side was pushed out an inch or two. I didnt get a scratch though...it was a really hard hit. plus the trusty 2.8 fired right back up

I just got rear ended on fri night too.My friend was following me in his Nissan Maxima and it was real foggy and i came up to a sharp turn and a bridge and i turned the wheels but kept going straight so i locked up the breaks to avoid hitting the guard rail and then sat there for like 4 seconds and my friend came along and locked up his brakes and skidded into me,I just have a few scratches but he busted his headlight and tour up his bumper.I guess cell phones in Nissans and 3rd gen rear ends don't mix either......Andy

Back bumper so easy to repair.
Strip out lights (go thru interior behind the plastic cover-twist the black things)
Start removing the bolts you'll see.
They should be 15mm.
The solid bumper supports, pound back into shape.
Plastic pins, slip out middle pull with wire cutters or nibblers.
I need to replace my back bumper cover. I'm searching in the yards shortly.
Good luck finding a rear cover.
You may have to go aftermarket now.
UNLESS GM sells new ones, still.

I was sitting on the interstate a few years ago , I had just stopped because the traffic was backed up . Some lady 4 cars behind me never stopped in her ford ranger , she hit a full size extended cab chevy and a Cadilac behind me , the cadilac ran into the back of me , they were all totalled , i drove off with a small crack in my tail light and a scratch on my bumper . I could not belive it !

Well I talked to the lady's insurance yesterday. They'll cut me a check for 1100 bucks !!! Not too shabby considering that I bought this gem for 300, spent the next three years doing/correcting my first engine swap, and now am driving it daily. First things first -- gotta fix the wife's Buick, tthen it's boneyard time:lala: :lala:

Did you sign a pain and suffering medical clause yet?
Been to a doctor yet?
Will insurance pay for that visit, too?
Details, but necessary!
Good going, tho.

Well...I have a sad story to add to all of this...Me and my buddy were driving up to Cape Cod and following a friend of ours...It was our damn deserved vacation...however...at a Yield sign...not stop...some lady slams her brakes and is dead stopped...this set off the chain reaction of my friend in front slamming his...however...she had started taking off...we weren't as lucky because it was wet out and we skidded straight into the back of a '92 Bonneville...my friends 'Bird was pretty bad...both fenders...all the paneling underneath thats part of the air damn...the front cover...shock absorbers and the actual metal bumper was all destroyed...125 bucks all together to fix and all...but instead of fixing up the v-6...he goes out and buys a gta with a 350 that blows smoke and has some major tranny problems...all he had to do was paint the 6 and throw a rebuilt tranny in...total cost...about 1200...pays 2800 for the gta...with more problems...what are you gonna do though...oh...the frame on the bonny was twisted up bad...
