posi? limited slip?/gears?

who has a posi, limited slip, or locking? whats the difference between them all?
how much labor is required to have these things put in? how much do they cost? good results?
also, bigger gears...whats the cost on that? hard to put in? results?

thanks

I'll offer this and it's all cheap.
First off,
GET RID OF ALL THAT JUNK
How do you move???
Honest you are carrying so much extra weight.
AND THAT'S FREE!
NEXT?
What are your gears?
3:42?
Very good choice.
Next?
Extra power traction aids?
Here's what I suggest.
Honest now.
These V-6 can put out "Power".
NOT like a small block V-8 but, you can spin your tires.
How much spinning ya do right now?
Thought so.
Try this!
Find ONE 15x7 or 15 x 8 Wheel (15 x 8 from Old Corvettes are like $30-ish 15 x 7 Monte Carlo are like $10-20).
Get a GREAT Drag Racing Tire.
ANY BRAND.
Mount it and use it.
You'll loose lots of spin.
IF ya still have big spin, add weight over that one wheel.
You want better traction, that's all.
Do a tire swap.
AND by altering the height (a plus or minus tire side wall measurement) you can change "rear gears"-up or down.
You'll have saved maybe $300-$1000 by doing this idea.
Setting up rear and the gears and the "traction aids" wil run ya close to $1000-$1300, easy.
Being honest.
let the flames begin.
PS for my 1967 RS/SS Camaro 4-Speed with the 12 bolt & the 1968 Camaro getting a 12 bolt....
I must spend about $1000 for eash axle rebuild.
Ouch.......
My 1985 Blazer listed below?
I am obtaining a Non-Posi 3:42 axle with less than 100K miles on it for very cheap.
That's way cheaper than a rebuild of my current Blazer 211,500 axle with leaky side seals, groved axle shafts and noisy gears.

posi = limited slip. (Positraction is like a brand name. Kind of like Chevy = car.) It uses cones & clutches to engage. A locker uses gears, and can't slip (like a clutch could).

I put a 3.73/posi/disc rear axle (from an '84 trans am) under my Firebird. The posi is actually an Eaton Gov-lock locker... GM had trouble getting the Auburn posi units in '84, so they got the eaton units. The darn posi broke (the gov-locks are famous for that!), and now I'm back on a $100 3.42/open/drum axle.

here's some good diff info:
http://ollllo.com/features.asp?Display=114

LSD installation is between $250 - $400 depending on the shop. you can do this yourself, though. gears might be tougher to DIY. IMHO, it would be easier and cheaper to swap rears.

LSD is definitely good for more traction especially at the track. my 4th gen peg leg spins pretty bad @ Englishtown. BTW, we'll be @ Etown on Saturday, 7/13 for the GMHTP EFI Series 2 event and on 7/20 for the East Coast F-Body Nationals.

we're all out to have fun whether we tune, mod, cruise, race, watch the race, raise the db levels or show off our rides. you don't have to be fast or do weight reduction to run bracket drag events. you just have to be consistent and cut good r/t's. it's all about mad driver skills.
