Hey i'm getting a cheap engine soon and I have a stand but no hoist.. and a buddy w/ a truck.. the guy selling it to me obviously has a hoist and will hoist it into the truck but thats it... any ideas on how to wheel it out of the truck on the stand.. I can't imagine building a ramp that would support an engine.. and I will eventually get a hoist.. just can't right at this moment and I don't want to pass this engine by...

Get three big friends, attach spider to tail of engine, lift sucker out of truck and place spider in stand. Or maybe get four friends and let them grunt while you supervise, that's what I would do.

do what I had to do to get the 3.4 off the back of the blazer: attach engine stand to motor while on truck, ease off w/help a some freinds so when engine off back off truck, it's already in the stand

88GTAinRI, you forgot to mention that RI was also the most corrupt state in the union. I used to have grandparents up there (still there in a way) so I can say that w/ a clear conscience

it would already be in the stand in the truck.. but I hardly think I could convince a few of my friends to help me lift and lower an engine to the ground that weighs a few hundred pounds...

When I did that 2.8/2.8 swap, we had to rebolt the engine to the stand, I held the motor with another guy, and a third ran the bolts in. Supposedly the car owner and another guy picked the 2.8 out of the pickup it came in, and put it on the ground. It's really not that heavy. It's more of a btch to get a firm grip on.

Oh you could always use boards or something, too, to slide the motor down. You might have to lay it on it's side if it's on a stand, or, just rotate the stand so the motor is upright when the stand is laying on it's side.
