mpfi has 6 injectors, one for each cylinder, and a air only throttle body on the upper front of the engine. tbi has a dual injected throttle body on the top of the engine, and will have a dorkie looking air cleaner, assuming your all stock.

that pretty much said it all, pretty sure though that some of the TBI units are equipped with a single injector, thinking that those units were on 4 cylinder cars though, (the 4 cylinder bird, and small 4cylinders all the way into the 90's). TBI was also used on chevy trucks and whatnot, nto to mention of course f-bodies, it's more or less rich carburation, or poor fuel injection, it's also very easy to mistake a TBI engine (with aircleaner on) for a carburated engine, because they look nearly identical. Then, there's MPFI , which is very similar to TPI (tuned port injection) MPFI stands for Multi Port Fuel INjection, and as stated earlier has six injectors each feeding an individual cylinder, seven if you count the cold start injector. Fuel is injected into the manifoldand through theh heads into the cylinders, which is a much better design then the TBI units. The difference between MPFI and TPI are the tuned intake runners on TPI. The ressemble tuned headers, and TPI setups often resemble a spider.
