It's best to leave it in there . You can damage your maf sensor taking it out , and its not a cheap fix , or later on down the road you MAF could break from trash or debry hitting it . I dont recommend taking it out . I know I have mine taken out as you can see in my sig , but if I had to do it over again , I prabably would leave it in there . I took mine out before I knew the risk .

Yea leave it in.... The screen smooths out the air flow so the sensor can get an accurate reading. I had my maf screen off and i blew the MAF doing a 4 to 3 downshift to near redline. Not a cheap fix either... 212 bucks!!! OUCH!

As implied above, there are no good reasons to remove the screen, only bad.

Our V6s do not move enough air for the screen to pose a significant restriction.

i removed mine and i pulled in debris at IDLE!!!!

Don't do it man!

I was lucky, i found one on ebay for $20 the same day, but had to run around town a few days with a broken MAF, and trust me that information is VERY necessary for the computer to know, it needs to know how much to lean out the fuel mixture or retard the timing...

Leave it in, thats your best decission!

Slow2.8, you didn't say what car you have (camaro or Firebird? It's not in your signature), but if you have a Firebird like I do, removing the screen might actually set a computer code, due to the 45 degree angled pipe that's glued to the MAF sensor inlet. I pulled mine, and got a code 32- low air flow. I put the screen back, and no more code. I think air was hitting that 45 degree pipe, and "curving" around the side of the sensor instead of going through the center of the sensor. Sort of like a car entering a turn from the "inside" and leaving a turn on the "outside" lane.
