so yea..my car is runnin like crap...i fried the wires comin out the EGR...so the EGR wasnt workin...i went to the local junkyard and look at all the camaros...no digital EGR's...but whats this?! a 1994 3.1L by GM?! with a digital EGR?!
i snatched the plug...and we put it in...car ran better...but the egr wasnt in top shape...so my mechanic says to me...this plug is almost new...why didnt you grab the EGR too? list price the egr is 700 bucks and 300 bucks for me! so i say "DAMN im gonna go get it, how much you think it will be?" he told me prolly 50 bucks if they are stupid and dont know what they are selling you...
so i go to the junk yard...and get the egr, bring it to the front desk, and say, "how much ma'am"
she says "15 dollars" i went "15 dollars?! damn lemme go get my money!" so i gave her the money and bolted before she could realize what she just did...i put in the egr, and my idle is perfectly still and alot of power is restored! im so happy im gonna pick this junkyard engine apart! im sooo happy! thanks for reading this useless thing.

an EGR is this
Emissions and Gas Recycling (or recirculation) valve...it puts some used emissions and gas back into the system...its a big power increase to go from a broken to working one...i know in my 3.1L its digital...in the 2.8 i think its vaccuum. on the digital ones...its located right next to the silver AC cylander.

That could be the reson why my 91 has a miss in it . When you give it some gas. I ve replaced about every other thing except that. Time to go to the "yard" and see what I can find.

 

Anyone got a pick of the EGR that way I know what im looking for if i wanna replace mine and get one from the yard??? ANyone?? A picture of both would be good so I can see which one I got on my 88 camaro???

 

Isn't it Exhaust Gas Recirculation? It cools off the combustion process at part throttle conditions, to reduce emissions, by putting Exhaust Gas back into the combustion process.

if im not mistaken, didnt the 88 come with the vaccuum EGR? that one brand new is a helluva lot cheaper than the digital is...and alot more cars at the junkyard have it...

BTW i didnt have a fully working EGR for about a year, and now that i do, my smog pump started to act funny, and so did my computer cuz it wasnt used to a working egr, neither am i...so it ran real rough...but when i took it for a 20 mile drive and pinned the gas wherever i went, it blew all that crap out of my engine and now it runs like a charm...that could be a help for you people with rough idle problems
ill try to get some pics of the EGR's, i know if you go to the local napa or auto parts store, they have a book with pics of it.

 

Those Electric EGR are also on the 1993-95 3.4 powered f-bodies, too.
MANY times the FWD cars will have MANY accessories one "needs" for the f-bodies. I pulled a computer for my 85 Firebird from a 85 Pontiac 6000.

I have a electric EGR on the swapping in `95 3.4 I recently got. I never knew why you guys bitched so much, until I saw it.
Then I understood very well.

I still wonder if a vacuum EGR could be placed where a digital EGR once sat. The manifold opening appears to be the same. Anyone got a GM manual for the 90-92 f-body? What are the wires (color & function) going to the digital EGR?

 

there are for wires:

. <----- some wire witha blue stripe
. <---- Ground (black)
. . <---Green wire

hot wire (red)



id imagine the blue wire acts for a sensor in there, (like the o2 sensor has a blue wire) and that wire prolly goes to the computer.
the green wire...i have no idea....the dots represent the wires comin out of the plug. my colors might be slightly off because my wires melted themselfs and discolored it....plus im color blind
