3.1 Turbo from a Z24 - will it fit?

Its the 60 degree V6 just like ours, turbo'd and clocks about 200hp 200 torque... i am dissapointed they didnt plop it into the base firebirds/camaros... will it pop right into our f-bodys and work with our stock tranny? Its not all THAT powerful, so i figure our stock 700R4s could handle it.

internally, you're 700r4 is the same transmission as that seen in all other camaros and firebirds even v8 cars....Even the Corvette was using the 700R4, so i'm doubting that you're going to be having trouble with 200hp unless your tranny's gone through hell and back, and is starting to crap out already. As far as the turbo setup from the Z24, it wouldn't be a bad place to start. But, because it's an east-west motor, you'd have to still find a wayto use all the piping to sit north south, this is simply because of the direction of the engine, and the routing of the exaust. That's the downfall of the turbo, while ur using you're waste biproduct to create even more horsepower, you're also doing this with an expense of engine space, and on a two banked engine (v6-v8-v10 etc) you'll have a helluva time routing the piping to get it to work. In all truth and honesty, i believe a freakin twin turbo would be simpliar to setup on our motors than the single version would.

What about the blower on a 2000 grand prix with the 3.1 liter, I guess the hard part would be the emission and plenum??

The 2000 grand prix with a blower is supercharged not turbo'd....
plus its a 3.8 i believe.

I was wondering about the 3.1T cause in my belief the F*cking f-bodys shoulda gotten it... NOT the cavaliers!

Ok consider this... what if you also picked up all the stuff to go on the est/wst motor? Aftermarket headers, manifold etc...

yr gonna have big issue with this swap. the z24 cavalier uses a different head and to boot the block wont bolt up to yr car. the tranny bolt pattern is the same but the mounts are way off.

I don't ever remember hearing about a stock, turbo v6 Cavalier. What you found was probably a motor swap from a TGP

that's the new ones, the old ones were turbocharged....oh, they're not to grand until they devolp boost, but....you know that the 3.8L is a much more torquey motor than a 2.8L so it'll burn tires off the line even better than we will (plus fwd makes that easier too). Friend of mine at school drives one, rolls it out to 25mph, slams the throttle down, boost guage came alive and tires smoked through first, and the beginning of second....not to bad .

Cavalier's didn't get a v6 turbo stock. A sunbird maybe, but not a cavalier.

89-90 McLaren TGP's got a turbo 3.1

91-96 GTP's got a NA T-DOHC (quad cam) 3.4

97+ GTPs get a SC 3800

rpo LHO is the NA 3.1

the only was a SC 3800 GTP would be a dog off the line would be if traction control was on and the due neutral dropped

6.6 0-60 bone stock isn't bad. w/ a little modding they run with (and occasionally beat) LS-1 cars.

they regularily beat up on thirdgens.

before I get flamed check out www.clubgp.com

there are 1/4mile times and mod lists.

FYI there was a turbo sunbird with a I-4 in it. sucked so bad, it didn't stick around long.

LHO If I remember correctly was the same RPO used on the gen 2 3.1's (that included the cavalier)

but if having 5 more horses than a 2.8 is what you want go for it. I think it would be easier to run your maro FWD than to play with the 3.1 to make it work RWD.

It won't fit at all. If it did, one of us would have done it by now.
