could be , check your plug wires and distributor cap .

I've learned from having my car , there is many differnt things that can cause that . I wont even begin to start .

Vacuum hose leak.
Happy hunting!
You can find it, repair it with 5/16" windshiled wiper hose.
Cost is within College Student budget.
$2 or less.
You're welcome!
PS
That hose, driver side by base of distributor is 1/2".
Oh the plastic hard lines, no longer available.
You can solve this.

I think there is a crude methos for testing them which involves spraying water around the vaccum lines. While spraying, if the rough idle dissappears for a moment, that is the source of your vaccum leak.

Obtain a long section of rubber hose about 1/2" inside diameter, length about 3 feet.
Place one end to your ear amd other end, follow the hoses you can see.
You'll learn how it sounds (problem/no problem) real quick.
Angle car for best daytime under hood light source & engine warm, strong idle.

i just drove and it got soooo much worse! now, it does it so often, it is almost constant...like at a steady rpm the engine wants to shimmy and studder. i popped the hood...plug wires ok (it was dark) didnt really get a chance to check out the vaccuum hoses. maybe you could be more specific as to whether there are any in particular that i should check???thanks.

The hoses for the egr and the one that go to the fuel canaster. Spray all your hoses with WD-40 not your heater hoses but all your vacuum ones. Even though the hoses maylook good they cn dry rot real bad. soak them down with some lub and it will let you know which one.

mine ended up being the ones to the fuel canaster. after a good soaking it started to idle right. one of them was so dry rotted that it would suck itself shut.
