When its Cold

ok well, when my engine is cold, and I'm gonna be late for work, I obviously dont have time to warm the puppy up. Now, when I drive it cold, it seams to stammer quite a bit and when I accelerate a little more than slow, it stammers then I feel/hear a pop where the pedal is?

Anyone have an idea of what this could possibly be?

edit: or is it just the fact that its cold and need to be warmed?

Yeah, might just be cold. When it gets really cold out, and I realize that I forgot, once again, to put a remote-start in during the summer, I usually do this trick: I take the ignition key off my key ring, run outside in my boxers (to wake myself up!), start the car, lock the door, run inside. Then I gotta get dressed really fast because now, I'm freezing, and then I run out to the car. Just don't forget to put the ignition key back on the key ring so you don't lose it

Have you given it a tuneup lately?

That's weird because that's the way my car acts when it's hot outside. When it's cold it runs faster than any other time and I also don't have problems with the engine when it is cold outside.

well, it seams its not doing it as much anymore.. strangely enough. I treated the engine to clense the the jets and the tubing out about 350-400 miles ago and seams to have died down.

edit: In a little bit of more info, I noticed it was better when I was leaving my office around 5ish, not that it is colder than morning, but i tried to think back to this morning, and I realized that it wasnt doing it as much. If at all.

I find that my car will do that lurching thing if I start it up and take off. But if I hold the rpms at 2500-3000 for just a min or two, it will not lurch on me.

Hmmmm.... Interesting.... I wonder if the Incoming air temp was causing the code 45 on my 83 camaro. I recently changed the O2 Sensor and the TPS. After a while of driving on the highway, my SES light would come on until I got off the highway. I changed a few vaccum lines but it didn't go away. With the recent drop in temps, the SES light hasn't come on.

Anybody got an idea if air temp could cause me to get a code 45?

Well, the ecm only checks the oxygen sensor after a few conditions have been met... involving how long the engine's been running, and exhaust temperature- but it's also based on coolant temperature. If the coolant temp is below 77 degrees Fahrenheit, the computer will stay in open loop mode, and not read the oxy sensor. So maybe your car isn't getting warmed up enough? I forget, did you have a temp gauge in there?

Nah I got the stripper dash w/idiot lights. However, the warming up part is a step in the right direction. My one heater hose that goes from the heater core to the intake manifold has a nasty kink in it. I've been planning to hit the yard and seeif I can find the proper routing of this hose.

My car runs fast as hell when it's cold..but it's really rough and inconsistent. It will jerkily accelerate at about 1/4 throttle when my ACTUAL gas pedal is anywhere up to 3/4 pedal...once I hit that WOT threshhold, lo and behold, car doubles down and hauls @$$ full throttle. Kinda irritating but I've learned to live with it.

I am glad other people have this problem. The car runs great in temperatures from 60-70. When it's cold in the morning below about 50 is runs just like everyone elses. I've changed the O2 sensor and checked the idle air control valve which is ok. Maybe the problem is just inherent to the car which I would hope is not the case.
