I install 3.4 mills under the original 2.8 induction/igntion systems.
Works fine, smog legal.
Accel products for ignition & I like Bosch plugs.
You live in New York State & ya wanna install a 160* thermo....
Suggestion, stock 195 or atleast find a 185*.
You seriously could make some computer trouble by using a thermo so low in temp (MAY cause the ride to run very rich all the time and waste gas, plugs, etc...... again, MAY do that).
I AM ALWAYS AWAITING smog legal headers!

im runnin 16.5 with exhaust intake Accel ignition ect.

I took an apc air intake built for a honda civic an bolted it right up. It fits perfectly and puts the filter right behind the headlight bucket where the stock filter canister would go. Ill post a picture later when im not on a school computer. But it actually does work quite well. I pop the headlight out n the intake is right there..almost a mini ghetto rigged ram air.

Everything below has been installed by myself...

intake, custom cold air w/large K&N conical

exhaust, factory manifolds, hogged out the manifold-to-y-pipe "donuts", AP mandrel-bent y-pipe, PFP high-flow catalytic convertor, Dynomax super turbo cat-back, Megs chrome rolled edge tips.

ignition, rebuilt distributor (stock parts), Accel distributor cap/rotor kit, MSD 6AL, MSD Blaster SS, MSD 8.5mm universal (cut/crimp my own) wires, AC/Delco plugs (ran Splitfires for 5 years, but when I put the MSD on, the MSD chewed the splitfires up) gapped to 0.050", stock timing (10 degrees), original GM computer chip

700r4 automatic trans, B&M shift kit (not good for trans, the TransGo kit is what you (and I) want), B&M 4-3 kickdown kit, B&M Megashifter, B&M Super Cooler, Summit remote trans filter kit, Energy Suspension trans mount, Energy Suspension torque arm mount

engine, original 2.8 with 241,000 miles, cloyes true dual roller timing chain

free/cheap mods, removed a/c system, tb bypass, 160 thermo in summer and 195 thermo in winter

rear axle, WAS my 3.73/posi/disc from an '84 transam, rebuilt with new axleshaft bearings/seals, POR-15 paint, rebuilt rear calipers, changed car's brake system (m/c, prop valve, front-to-rear brake line) for 4-wheel-disc. NOW, the axle's locker blew out, back on a junkyard axle, $100, from '88 camaro 2.8, same as my old stock axle (3.42/open/drum).

suspension, monroe sensatrac struts, gabriel high-jacker air shocks, Energy Suspension anti-sway-bar end-links and mounting bushings, American Racing ar-46 rims, tires are BFG Radial T/A, front P225/60r15, rear P275/60r15

Ran a 16.87 in '97 with "only" a cat-back exhaust, rest of engine was in poor running condition (clogged filters, mixmatched set of plug wires, trans died a month later, etc). Mileage was probably about 120,000. Last run, a few years ago, with all the above mods on, was a 17.1 with a TCC lockup switch, at about 200,000 miles.

"original" as in, not rebuilt! It gets up and goes alright, but the track times just aren't reflecting it. I'm betting my camshaft lobes are worn down all to hell.

Although I can't wait to rebuild an '87 2.8 and drop it in... hopefully this summer... but I said that for Summer of '02 (sigh)

It depends on which type it is. mine is kind of a short ram set up. if you get the type that goes down into the fender then no it wontwork. if you get the type like i have then it will fit. APC makes the one i have and it works perfectly. Plus i didnt have to worry about a mass air flow because i have a speed density sensor.

Do you have the part number for the apc one you have? Also, what do you mean about the speed density part? Is that something I need to worry about?

They tend not to give very much HP unless ya drive fast.
WHY
No air getting to it.
Must have air forced into it to be truly effective.
A PVC set up is dirt cheap to experiment for best placement.
Ya feel the difference MOSTLY when passing cars at freeways speeds, but around town, will just make more "noise".
gain is usually about 5HP or so
Again best results for the air flow increase is in passing on freeways and a higher top end speed.

Throop, you should really re-connect that MAF sensor. Running without it puts the computer into limp-home mode, and you're not running as strong as you could be. The sensors are there for a reason, dude! Besides, the stock MAF can handle more airflow than the 2.8 engine will ever use...

Check my sig for mods.
the intake is like RS
i have a honda intake and bolt it right, its hovering above the battery. So i have a big open nothing where the original set up was.
I'm hoping 16s
and i definitely don't know my 0-60

wait heres my sig
ok
i have NGK plugs in case i don't have them
not platinum cuz i plan going turbo
so platinum will kill the engine.
its bad for MSD too which i plan on getting as well

the intake i have is from a honda short ram intake.
i bought it off discount auto parts i think.
its blue and fits right in with the right brains
doesn't take much
just buy the cheap honda short rams you find in those kind of stores and buy them (Pep Boys, Discount Auto Parts, Auto Zone) thinks like that.

tke care...
hope sig is up this time..... sigh
