Check this out! http://www.bryanf.com/mycars/510V6.htm

I'd hate to think what this would cost though

A set of stainless headers alone would cost over $600 then the turbos and wastegates but you could run it off the stock ECM if you ran a 3 bar MAP. I would say about $1800-$2000 on a budget and it could be done. assuming you have a car and a good running engine.

This is an old page, and has been brought up many times on in turbo discussion.

Yep, and the guy sold the car.. so we'll probably never hear anything new of it again. But if you think about his operation, the only reason he chose a 2.8 was because of it's size. Think of the page as turbo'ing ANY motor, wheter a 2.8 or 3.4 or 3.1 or 3100 or 5.0 or 5.7 or 302 or ... if that engine compartment was bigger (or the car was different), I betchya $$ that a 2.8 wouldn't be under the hood.

It wasnt a v6 but did anyone catch that quad turbo 3rd gen on hotrod tv, or one of them car shows on Tnn, the car didnt run do to valve train problems but its looked so sweet.

if 1 turbo is good, and 2 turbos are great, 4 turbos has to be mind blowing.

Hmmm.
He has a lot of info on how the car drives and is very fast and all but I'm surprised to see he never took this thing to the track. What gives?! If I had a twin turbo'd 2.8 of that caliber I'd have at least gotten 5 or 6 timeslips to know what my super boosted 160 cubic inches can really do.

Was it Mike Moran's? Last I heard, he was putting a quad turbo system into Casper (his white 4th gen Camaro)...

You could probalby do a yahoo.com search for mike moran quad turbo and see what pops up. Hot Rod doesn't really cover any of the real drag racing anymore, I don't know what any of those racers (Tony Christian, Mike Moran, Pat Musi, Annette Summer, etc) are up to anymore. Moran was the first guy to break 200 mph in his class, and also started the big move to newer body styles... everybody was running the old bricks (like 57 chevies) down the 1/4 mile until Moran showed up. 'Fact he got in trouble with one of the racing organizations (NHRA?) when he had headlight covers on his car, because the NHRA said they were illegal because of aerodynamics. So Moran stopped racing for whatever racing body that was.

4 turbos does not neccesarilly make an engine more powerful than a twin turbo setup if done right, basically, more does not mean better. Its all in the setup. Some single turbo applications are better than a twin turbo setup.

The Suzuki Escudo which is used to run the Pikes Peak hill climb has a mid mounted fourcylinder that has twin turbos and twin superchargers and puts out like 900 bhp. Its got the high rpm horsepower advantage of the twin turbos and the lightening quick acceleration of a supercharger.

4 turbos sounds like a lot of plumbing and boost. I would be affraid of blowing up.

Wow, thanks for that link; I'd heard about this motor a while ago, but never saw it. Back when Moran broke that 6 second record, he was working as an airline mechanic; apparently he's put his skills to some amazing use, eh?

Yes, I saw that episode....I couldnt believe it myself...Moran's achieved godlike status for me for that car... It's too bad they didnt show it doing any runs...said it had mechanical problems since it's a new setup and they're working kinks out so it didnt make the qualifying times.

Hey, I raced with the Escudo on Pikes Peak in Gran Turismo 2! What a hell of a car....whew...amazing. I wish Gran Turismo 3 were as good...I was disappointed in the severe lack of cars.

I saw the Escudo on ESPN one day and they opened up the engine and it was just a mass of plumbing. I don't like complicated setups like that - too many headaches.

Yeah but it sure turns heads don't it? Too bad these kinds of things aren't heavily marketed. It's a Camaro, which grabs the muscle-car crowd..and you know the import boys would all check it out as soon as they heard 'turbo'.....probably immediately yellowing their pants and running to drag their mother into the room to show her the car they want to replace their aging Corolla with a 5 in. tip and leaf blower rigged to the intake.

I have not been here in awhile since I got my 97, but it is funny how things like this pop back up over time...
