TV Cable questions
If the TV cable is maladjusted, the tranny pressure gets all funky correct? Now...delayed shifts are a symptom of low line pressure, right? And hard shifts are a symptom of high line pressure, or maybe just a shot tranny? I've got both, and was going to try to readjust the TV cable today...my Haynes is giving me a pretty clear picture on this..although it's different from any I've heard anywhere else. I personally couldn't find any sort of adjustment things or the tab that's described in here..I think it's pulled under the plenum somewhere.... Just wanted to know a few of these things before I go to adjust it...I'm going to mark off the original adjustment point just in case (thanks Tom...)...lol thanks guys.

your right, more line pressure will give harder shifts but also make your kickdown/passing gear engage quicker/ easier. you can bennfit from tv adjustments, but you gotta not do thing like, jumping on it around cornors.
different trans but same thing, I put a 1/4 in nut on the tv cable for my 79 duster, raising pressure and made the kick down/ passing gear real easy to find. but getting hot around a cornor, riped all the teeth off the spider gears and cracked the giant steel bell inside the trans in half.
was sweet going striaght though.

Nixon, The TV cable should be pulled out completely at full throttle. The easiest way to verify this is to cafefully remove TV cable clip from the TB linkage and pull it out as far as it will go by hand, then twist the TB linkage to full throttle and see if they match up. If not then make proper adjustments.

I'll check that out..but the way my car seems...seems like the TV cable is definitely adjusted. Shifts extremely hard, and kicks down REALLY easy...usually into an incorrect gear for the speed.
(As in, it kicks back to the previous gear with the engine redlining, and I have to release the gas to force it back into the correct gear so it doesn't blow my motor. That's gotta be terrible for both the engine AND trans.) But the shifts are extremely late. First to second is too late but still not bad...but second to third... It should be shifting at 60 mph to third gear.....but at WOT, it won't shift until 75 or over...which sure as hell sounds like redlining.

Yes... Friend of mine disconnected his because he's an idiot and didn't realize what it was for.. He said his tranny shifted smooth for about 2 weeks.....until it blew up. I had to pull my idiot flag on that one.... So...loosening the cable a tad will lower my shift points? I would figure vice versa?

How much do you think I should loosen it by? Like, how many millimeters?

Screw it... Damn GM and their damn stupid designs. My TV adjustment thing is covered by a bolt-on metal plate, and the assembly is clipped onto that metal plate and I'd have to try to pry it out even to just get easier access to it. And the entire TV cable housing is under the plenum where, of course, I can't see it, and can't mark it. F*ck it. I've never seen a car designed so damn stupid. Sorry..just venting....

Go here https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/detent.shtml this is an easy way to adjust the tv cable. It saved my tranny from destruction.

I've checked this out..problem is, in that photo, the metal tang is exposed outside of the plenum. Mine is UNDER the plenum, and completely blocked off by that bracket..... Otherwise believe me I would've screwed with it long ago. My cable is tight..maybe a little too tight....but it's tight.
