re-did headliner
don't know if anyone cares or not, but i finally re-did my old, sagging, soiled, headliner. I followed the article on this website called repairing your headliner, and it really wasn't all that hard and only took two days to do. The headliner material was bought from Jo-Ann Fabrics (in black) and only needed adhessive (the $7.00 stuff from autozone) along with some fiberglass fabric, all in all, i'm impressed with the results and i'll post pics in a couple days. I need to invest in a digital camera one of these days, that or buy a stupid scanner. lol.
P.S.
The only problem i encountered were at the four bends that surround the t-tops, past that there were no major problems i encountered....and it makes the car looks millions of times better, just hope it holds up .

yeh the only reason i did it myself was because i was really really running low on cash.....NOw i'm looking for a crappy pair of speaker panels to re-do also, (the ones i have no are very nice and already black), because the headliner is so nice and soft...lol....
Wayne,
this is off topic , but have u ever had trouble with tranny mounts, given that you have the same mods done to your tranny as me? Cause mine has a tendency to snap the lil' things like butter...I just replaced my last one two days ago, and it lasted for a lil' over a year, was for a TPI 305, the new one's for an 87' 350 and i'm hoping it last a little bit longer.....or a real long time....so i'm trying my best to stay off the gas and avoid those neck snapping shifts...lol.

i do have a set of sail panels right now actually, just haven't covered them yet, and haven't decided if i want to or not. My friend gave me the set along with leather seats, door panels, arm rests, kick panels, etc.....basically everything for the front of the cars interior, and black carpet for the back side too....(and it's all FREEEEEEE!!!!) the problem is that those sail panels are in very nice condition and i don't want to ruin them by accident (if i screw up). I had an old set of sail panels that i was going to recover, but i believe my mom threw them away about two weeks before i came home for Christmas break...damnit....im sure i can come up with them when i do my junkyard run for some black front carpet. ...

Thanks for the info on the headliner re-cover job! I'll be doing mine this summer. My old one sagged, I fixed it by pulling the material tight against the sides of the board, and clipping it to the board with those little binder clips. Looked good, but still wasn't up against the roof. (People always told me it looked cool, go figure, haha!) So I got one out of a junkyard- it was Perfect! It also started sagging a couple months after I put it in; now it's totally shot.
Know what I hate about those sail panels? How the material covers up the speaker. I'd like to put a grate where the speaker is; but then it'd be an "attraction"- like "Hey, look what that guy did! I wonder if he's got a system?"

what you need is a big box of white thumb tacks and make a quilt pattern. or use another color. makes it look stylish and custom.

Nope it does look nice. But you gotta pull lose all the cloth but not off, that way it looks really puffy. Its like that in my wagon.
In my bird I dont even have the cardboard, just a metal roof and some exposed brackets. Has that nice metalic echo effect.

yeh, i had drove around for one night w/o the headliner in (my autozone trip). Was a lil' louder, but, i had the overhead console off the car, and the wires were hanging around a bit, wasn't exactly pretty....although the paint wasn't bad, and despite the leaky t-tops, the metal wasn't rusted at all or anything (i was very happy about that). i'm going to head by my friends house tomorrow, see if i can take some photos w/ his digital camera, then load them onto the site so everyone can see.

speaking of driving without a headliner...been doing it since november because i'm very lazy and haven't redone my headliner...just bought a new board from the boneyard for 10 bucks...24 bucks for 6 ft of material and about 5 for some headliner glue...i'd see what the upholstery shops use...cause i used 3M before and it didn't glue too well...its easy to do...but yea gumby...i like the nice metallic echo sound...but when it rains its damn noisy in there...oh well though...anyone re doing the headliner...good luck to ya
