Yeah, why not, sounds good. If the recommendation came from the cam manufacturer, and that's the one they recommended out of all their 2.8 cams, they probably have a good idea about what they're talking about. There's probably better and worse cams out there, and I'm sure you'll get a ton of "buy this and don't buy that" answers.

What you should do is email all the 2.8/3.1 V6 cam makers and ask them what cam they recommend. Put all the cam specs in a big chart, and then you'll be able to see differences. Or if you want to play dirty, take those cam specs, mail them to crane, and say "comp cams recommended this cam to me. I was wondering what you could recommend for me in a Crane cam?" Pit the companies against one another.

Do you have emissions testing where you live?

If it was me I would save the money and go with an MPI set up. When my car was stock minus free mods and aluminum wheels I beat up on these two carbed 2.8's with 5 speeds all the time, it was not even a race LOL. The cams also work better with MPI from what I have heard. If you have the stock steel wheels you can do what I did and replace them with aluminum Z-28 wheels for 100 bucks, no spacers needed. Go to cranecams.com, If you look around you will fine the cams for the 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, they have emissions cams and non, I am going with a nice non emissions cam. Again with the dinky carb and intake it will not work as good as it could.
Good luck
David

Another Option

Also thought I would mention that there is another shop, "Anderson Racing Incorporated" that builds stroker kits for our motors, etc...

but one of the services they offer are better camshafts.

They offer this one camshaft that is equivelant to the Crane CompuCAMS 2030 Camshaft. This cam is their PHASE 2 cam.

It's STILL 100% compatible with the stock computer, but has a slightly higher lift and duration than the Crane Cam does.

It's also like $60 dollars cheaper too.

Check it out.

I purchased their 2.8 to 3.1 stroker kit (with .030 overbore pistons) and their Phase 2 cam. I'm having them installed right now as we speak.. complete rebuild. I'm totally psyched. I expect I'll be running mid 14s with this conversion.. of course, this is in a 2,500 pound Fiero though.

Yeah, I won't actualy get the engine back until the first week of February, but I should have it back in the car and ready to go within a week. I'll have to drive like a grandma for the first 1000 or so miles I think they say... but after that, I'll give it all it's got!

How much is your engine & machining bill?
Last guy said his cost $3000 and he had only a 2.8 still.
New GM OTC 3.4 mills go for only $1700 & a 12,000 warranty, too.

The total cost for EVERYTHING, which includes buying the 3.1 stroker kit, and the fancy cam-shaft... everything is costing a total about about $1,600 bucks.

And I end up with a high-output 3.2

(.030 3.1 pistons)
