ok guys.... im tired of my worn old 2.8 in my 82 cam... im ready for some V8 powa!! i've got a 98 camaro 3.8 v6 w/ a 5 speed, thas good enough for that car, but i want more for my old one, besides if i screw it up it wont really matter cuz i didnt pay jack for it!!! well n e ways ive got a 2.8 v6 4 speed. i would like to swap for a maybe 350, carbed or EFI, but i dunno how hard it would be to go injection cuz its carbed now so maybe thas how i'll keep it. someone please tell me how many other mods i would be lookin at (suspension, brakes, whuteva) and what i could do about a tranny.. i would like to go with a manual maybe 5 speed??? any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!!

other than the obvious answers for doing the swap, if you want to go fulie, lok into the Accel or Holley conversions. They even have 390 & 670cfm that could work for the V6 carbed cars, they just require a 4bb intake, which edelcrotch makes.

 

Install V8 power and keep it carb. It's much simpler to work with. Also cheaper too. I have a TPI car now and I can tell you that although it is more powerfull stock, It's harder to make power after the fact. Good luck with your car.

 

It depends on which system your more familiar working with. Carbed or Fuelinjection. I personally couldnt do a carbed motor swap cause I dont know **** about them. Fuelinjection is a different thing though I know it pretty good to work freely with. Just have fun doing it

 

If you've got the time, money, know how, all that, I'd love to see a ls1/T-56 swapped into a third gen camaro. That's probably out of the question though. I'd go for a later year TPI 350 but I personally don't know much about carbs and injection just seems natural to me. Good luck whatever you decide.

Find a STOUT 3rd Gen V-8 5 speed tranny.
THEN FIND THE BEST MONEY CAN BUY V-8 & carb set up.
Make the car as smog legal and proper as possible.
Make it a WELL ENGINEERED V-8 UPGRADE SWAP.
Enjoy.
You have PERFECT PLATFORM for a V-8 5-Speed upgrade.
YOU HAVE THE PEDALS ALREADY!
Serious, spend the effort for right, sell all the V-6 stuff ya can including tranny.
Get a V-8 powered car set up, follow GM engineering for suspension, brake upgrades. It's all common sense.
Follow the engineers work, find a donor V-8 Z-28 wreck to find better suspension. It all fits!

 

Basically:

1. Remove anything v6 related from your car. You can keep the body, the interior, rear axle, gas tank, the front and rear suspension except for the springs, and that's it.

2. Install everything from a wrecked v8 f-body into your car.

If you want to save some scratch, you can re-use your driveshaft and pair it with a TH-350 transmission. You can buy a rebuilt TH350 from Summit for $600.

LS1 answered...+ a six speed.

 

I did the extremely easy v6 to v8 swap.

1. Purchase v8 car in great shape at great price.
2. Call insurance company and ask to swap policy to v8 car.
3. Go to DMV with all appropriate paperwork.
4. Swap liscence plates from v6 to v8 car.
5. Enjoy more powerful car!

I know thats the easy way, not necessarily the most fun way.

 

THAT IS THE SMARTEST WAY TO DO THE SWAP!!
If ya go past CW Post & Old Brokville road, wave for me, used to have family ther & lots of memories.
I have to do a 6 cylinder to V-8 swap, too.
Just that it's on my Wife's 1968 Camaro.
A bit easier, but same idea, swap out all 6 insert used wrecked V-8.
Those V-8 third gen ride cars SO easy to find.
