I have a 87 SC with auto 2.8...... no spark.
coil is good, pickup is brand new, ign. module is brand new. I'm getting 12 volts on the meter at the coil, but when I looked for the signal from the computer to the ign. module, got nothing. I was looking for 5 volts at the four wire connector of the module, but nothing. I got less the 1 volt at some of the wires, but not 5 volts. What should I check now?

Jared, did you see that bit of the code 42 chart that I had typed up? See it here: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=103866 If you need more of it, let me know, I'll see if I can type up the rest this weekend.
Looks like I might actually be able to take a day off this weekend! The possibilities...

Thanks, I'll try the tests tomorrow. I don't think I got any codes a few months ago when I was working on it, but it ran when I parked it and i don't know if it would send a code with it not running.

With a lot of these charts, you don't need a code to run through them. Example, my code 54 chart, for low battery voltage at pump. It's a good chart to trace all the wires that connect the fuel pump to the rest of the car- even if code 54 wasn't thrown.
thanks guys, got it running today, don't know what i did. TomP, followed your list, everything checked out, checked spark and i had it. don't know what i fixed but it runs now. how do i set timing ? i set it to 10 BTDC without disablling the automatic advance, it's still too retarded. how do i eliminate the auto advance? thanks
IF I was you....
I'd loosen distributor, twist towards firewall and tighten the distb down.
Go for drive see how it feels.
I'll bet your chain is very stretched.
IF ya hear no ping & the car starts well, leave alone, plan on a timing chain swap very soon!
Twist distb. to firewall, until the engine sounds smoother running.
Do this when the ride is warmed up, not cold.

The timing chain isn't loose. The problem is, I'm not sure how the automatic advance is wired in. I set it to 10 BTDC, but without unhooking the automatic advance. so naturally it's going to run retarded, which it is. on the 350, you just pull a wire to eliminate this while you are setting base timing, but on the V6 the manual said something aobut shorting 2 pins in the ALDL to ground. any clue how to do that?

Weird... don't know about that, but there is the EST bypass connector, just like a TPI v8. It should be in the wire loom hanging on top of your heater/condensor box... a one wire connector, wire is tan/black.
