parts parts parts

ok the guy down the block was just hit in the rear
insurance called it a total and gave him cash
now he's tell me that the parts from his 91 Lumina
are interchangable with my 91 bird

is this true and if so what should i look for
i mean other then the fact that he no longer has a trunk
everthing is still intact and perfect order

His Lumina is FWD, which means that almost nothing from the engine and transmission, exhaust, etc... will work on your car. They both might be 3.1 liter engines, but the blocks, heads, intakes, ignition systems, transmissions, and exhaust components are all very different. The F body cars have a lot more in common with the S10/S15 pickup trucks than they do the FWD cars. I would say forget trying to get anything useful off of that car for your 3rd Gen V6, unless it has some really good interior parts that MIGHT work.

Rims won't work either, the offsets are a lot different between the 3rd gen F bodies and the FWD cars. Sorry to give you the bad news, but they are almost completely different. I would hate to see you waste money on stuff that isn't going to work.

I belive that lumina would have aluminum pistons, not sure of crank.

Check on the ECM, it might be the same.

Injectors will swap.

I could use the fuel injector rail harness. I need them little metal clips on it that hold it to the injectors

Is water pumps the same?

If hell give ya the car, take it. If you gotta buy it, it wouldnt be worth more then say 100 buxs in spare parts for an f-body.

As for die hard engine componets, the heads are diff, blocks diff, intakes diff, exhaust is diff.

Thats kind of funny. Two cars made from the same company with almost no parts directly interchangable.

Can't beat that...kinda funny isn't it!

Speaking of interchangeable...find yourself a trashed 4th gen...they have some NICE interior pieces. Manual window-roll *****...oh yes... And the seats are awesome!

I would grab those Lumina seats though if they're in decent shape...I mean they ARE from a Chevy and if they're the same bucket style of a seat, I can't imagine that Chevy would change THAT much between models unless they REALLY wanted to be little b*tches...

I believe lumina seats used a different rail system than our f-bodies... something with a wheel in the front? Anyway you could probably just remove the rails from the Lumina's seats, and bolt in the rails from under the f-body's seats- and worst case, make some adapters using 1/8" steel from the Home Depot Speed Shop.
