2.8 tranny and gears compatible with the 305?

Ok, now I got a 2.8 V6 in my RS but there's room for a 305, now i got a 5-speed in there, will the rear gears and clutch assembly and tranny all work with the 305?

Tranny, no. Different bolt pattern.

Rear gears, yes.

Clutch, don't know, but I would put a stronger one in there while everything was apart.

you need a T5 from a V8 car

rear end wise yes

V6 and V8 Drum brake cars have the same rears just different gears

you can keep everything from the tranny back

to use your current tranny:

get a V8 T5 bellhousing
get the right pressure plate and flywheel (for a V8)

go to www.McLeod.com and order a 10 inch clutch disc with a 14 spline hub

spreaders of mis-information (or under-educated) is a pet peeve i have

If I was gonna put in a 350, what would I need to make it compatible with the tranny/rear gears?

the 350 and the 305 are essentially the exact same motors, because they're both chevy small blocks. Do all the things previously stated and you can put a 350 into your car. For performance, you might want to invest in a positraction rear end.

I am in a similar situation. I have a 350 chevy out of a 1976 truck I am putting into my 84 Camaro. My 2.8 spun a rod... and we had the truck, weren't using it for much so decided to part it out.

I want to continue using my T5 transmission as I prefer the 5-speed to the Automatic that was in the truck.

I tried to follow the link to McLeod but it didn't work. Do you know of anywhere else to order that clutch disc with the 14 spline hub?

Also can you think of any other problems I may have with my conversion?

From what I hear, a Chevy Astro Van's clutch disc also would work, not sure if this has been verified, but that's what I've been told

From what I can find online, Astro Vans use either a 9.128" clutch for the 4 cyl and an 11" clutch for the v6.

I looked through years 85-91.

I might be wrong but I don't think the 11" clutch will fit. Since the normal one is supposed to be 10 - 10.4". Unless I would have to use the entire clutch assembly with exception of the flywheel.

nope it will not

they used an 11 inch clutch disc

stock on a 305 with a T5 in a thirdgen is 10.4

plus you would need a 168 tooth flywheel which will not fit inside a 3rd gen's T5 bellhousing

swap to the Astro bellhousing you say?

sure, if you dont mind your shifter sitting 12 inches further to the right than it is now............................................... (in other words you cant do that either)
