Bad Timing Chain!!! Pics Inside.
For the ones wondering. Here is what 139,970.6 miles of hard driving does to a timing chain on a 1993 2.8l Engine.
For ones not understanding. This should not move. And this pic shows bad.

Thats about what mine looked like when I rebuilt the motor. It had 168,xxx miles on it and boy was it hot rodded to hell and back. Everything else in that motor is brand new because everything else was either worn out, or a crank shaft that almost broke in half.

Hehe... Believe it or not that's nothing compared to the chain I took out of my firebird at 155k... there was a good 3 inches of travel... it was doing the death rattle against the timing chain cover... I got lucky that I caught that before it snapped.

Sorry Ryan, I'm striping this engine down for parts, and just
when I seen that. I might have a pic of my new engine, and timing chain. Would have to look though.
According to repair manuals, anything of .25" of travel like that, it needs replaced. I do belive that is in need of replacement. ( I just replace engine instead hehe)

I wonder if I took any pictures of my chain install... I've got so many damn rolls of undeveloped film laying around my room!
Just got a Mustek DV3000 digital camera; should come in handy for this summer!

WOW, with the original 200K on mine, and knowing that the guy who owned it before me didn't take that great of care of the motor, I think mine's gonna get changed next month.

Ryan, on my new engine (installed in s10), I did install a cloyes double roller.
When I go to do the camaro engine, I will install basic chain from local parts stores. I don't intend on it getting abused beyond basic driving. Save me about 40-60 bux.
Payday needs to hurry up!!!

I would love to see a true double roller for this engine for 30 bux. Only one I have seen was a bill.

I was looking for some of them, no luck
I was told they actually take 1-2 hp away from engine, but are by far more stronger.

Not sure of what cams in can/cant be used on, never got that far. I don't see why you couldn't use it on any cam
The also make a set that is "nosie" or "silent". He must of had the nosie ones.
