power out put question.

hello i'm new here but i got a question. i may buy a 3.1 from a firebird for my s-10. does anyone know what a 2.8 TBI makes for HP and torque? and the same for the 3.1L? the 3.1 is MPFI. i want to see how much power i will be getting by just buying the motor. and if anyone has any good power upgrades that i can do on a 3.1L? if i buy the motor i'll put a towing cam in, i may get 1.6:1 roller rockers, and headers. that's what i got planed help would be great. and if any of those mod won't work together tell me.

thanks!

now if anyone knows the specs. on the 2.8TBI. i know the carb 2.8 were like 110 hp and 140 ft/lbs of torque. but if it didn't change when they became TBI. well then swaping in a 3.1 would yeild a 30hp and 50ft/lbs of torque boost in power! man this is getting better and better!

The torque ratings for the 3.1...at least on this site's diagram, vary between 90-92. 90 and 92 it lists it at 180 ft/lbs, however it says 185 ft/lbs for 1991. Unless they updated it without my noticing.

I imagine the 2.8 TBI would have power ratings right close to the carb...maybe 5 hp more, not sure.. But the 3.1 would be a definite improvement.

Hard to say what to do to it performance-wise...seeing as you're in an odd situation. Catback exhaust would help....doubt any of the 82-92 F-Body catbacks would work with your hanger locations, etc...try to find a catback for a V6 S-10...any 2.8 catback, no matter the fuel delivery system, SHOULD work.

Roller rockers and a cam would definitely help if you want to put that kind of money into it... I wonder if a pair of 3.4 liter headers would clear your engine bay?? Because they WILL mate to the engine, but us F-Body guys can't use them because they hit the firewall.

Don't they make headers for the 2.8L engines in the S-10 trucks. I thought that I read that somewhere.

But to make the headers fit you will have to get a custom y pipe made.
