hooker supercomp longtube headers
hooker supercomp longtube headers
what is the difference between long tube and short tube headers?
because i lost so much low end torque, that it is pissing me off!
i had them jet hot coated and no cat w/the dynomax super turbo.
they are the ones that were discontinued in 1993 for camaro, firebird v6... im still working on posting some pics of my finished product..... im guessing that shorties have more torque.
but the thing is i thought that putting headers on will gain power
instead i must have lost some.
has anyone put headers on there 60 degree engines and gained
power? whats up i know that im a very rare owner of these headers but i should not lose that much.

I don't see why the torque loss was that major unless the primaries on the headers are too big or something, or the pipes on your catback were larger than 2 1/2in. If you lost low end torque though, look for the power up top. The powerband's probably been shifted up high so you should pull like crazy upwards of 4000-4500 rpms...like the imports do!
yeah i did think about the mid to upper range power, but i only have 170 miles on the motor and dont want to beat the **** out of it at those upper rpms.... it also shifts funny i have the b&m
trans pak. before my rebuild i had the chip, shift-kit, flowmaster,
accel coil, well anyway it would chirp the tires in 1st and second
gear, now i did floor it once and all it did was take off at a even
pace, seems like it dosent have enough torque to operate the shift kit or torque converter correctly.........

It's definitely a possibility. Either that or your transmission is slipping.
I'm sure that's not the problem..but it IS a possibility....
I'm sure that's not the problem..but it IS a possibility.... yeh i dont think the tranny is slipping before i rebuilt the motor it ran great. it just sat for a year, but when the new motor went in
i drained the trans fluid along w the filter. im very sure that cant be my problem.. the one thing is i dont have my egr in at all, when my egr didnt work before it had no get up and go, so i think it may be part of the problem.. im taking the headers off and having the egr welded in then sending it back to jet hot.

don't take the headers off! is the new motor stock or built up? when i put my new motor in, i punched it and new that one of two things was happening....either the tranny was slipping really bad or the tires were spinning really bad! luckely for me.....its got so much more torque that the tire(s) spins all the way through first. my tires are a hard enough coumpound (unfortunately) that they don't squeal and they rarely leave any marks on the road. i am running the hooker super comp headers on mine too and there is absolutely no way that i will ever go back to stock manifolds. what size pipe are you running off of them and what kinds of mods do you have on the motor?

If you waht to weld it on there, heres a pic of one of my sets that I fabbed up the EGR hookup, I WAS just attempting to get the EO smog certified for Calif.- I found out after the fact that was going to cost me thousands for the EO #- That project is abandoned

i was going to weld the egr on when i got the headers, but my mech- friend said i would not need it. well it turns out i do because when my egr was bad, it ran the same way, as it does
now. you know when you put the peddel to the floor and it sounds like u have a 4 barrel carb oppening up the secondarys...
well thats how it goes when my egr was hooked up, and running right. so it has alot to do with the performance of my motor, cause the computer is calling for it and its not there. it wont downshift and get down on full throttle.......... hmmmm?
it will even pop at full throttle.. it never does it when the egr was on though.......... im sure there will be more tunning issues like fp regulator/ my bigger accels injectors ect,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
