A odd hiss from the engine

I have a 87 Camaro v6 2.8lt. I have noticed recently that there is a weird hissing sound as if I were to slowly let air out a balloon. I checked all the vacume lines that I could see they seem fine. Anyone with an idea what that could be I would greatly appreciate it.....

Welcome to the boards. Make sure your air ducting going from the filter to the throttle body is tight, and doesn't have any leaks. If there's a loose hose there or something you can hear a hissing sound from air being sucked in through the throttle body. Does it do this all the time?

Perhaps exhaust as well? I dunno if that'd be a hissing sound, but who knows..

check the plastic emissions tube that runs behind the plenums at the rear of the engine. there is a small rubber piece at that bottom of that tube that connects the tube to the intake. That sometimes gets a hole in it or gets loose from age. It happened to me.

Believe it or not yes this could be possible. take a piece of tubing and put it to your ear then move the tube along side the engine next to the exhaust manifolds. Try to keep it close to the manifold but, not so close you touch the manifold and melt the tube. Do this on both sides. The hissing will get real loud once you get close to it. just take a look and see which cylinder exhaust port the tube is over and that is most likely where your exhaust leak is. This method has worked for me a couple of times.

Sorry I don't mean to hod the board here but, I had one more suggestion that you could try. Get some starting fluid and attach that little red plastic tube to the nozzle. start spraying around the intake and plenums. where ever there may be a gasket. If a chunk of gasket blew and got sucked in this could created a hissing noise. Or if the plenums or intake manifold is warped, it could create a hissing noise. These are your least likely scenarios And you should try this as one of the last things you do.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'll try all off them until I get some sorta result. Maybe this will help too... It started after I changed the Tranny.
