reason i ask is this:

i was at several wrecking yards today looking for somthing, but i cant resist looking in every 3rdgen i come across.

i noticed that out of all the 3rdgens i see the V6 ones are almost untouched in the drivetrain..

i have a V8 but im wondering:

i know the bell housing is diffrent, but is the manual tranny the same?
are the clutch/brake pedals the same as the V8 pedals?
will a AC compressor from a V6 hook up to my V8s brackets?

Feelin' testy tonight?

As far as drivetrain goes, the rear end assembly, and driveshaft I think are all that are the same... oh, and the tranny xmember!

so if i had a V8 bellhousing and clutch, a V6 tranny wouldnt slip into it, right??

no, think it would...the v6 guys who upgrade to v8's and have T5's tend to keep their t5's w/ a different bellhousing and clutch assembly. so i'd assume it'd work .

Not to argue with you overclock, but gmpartdirect list them as different part numbers. Dunno what the difference is, but they are 2 diff part #'s.

I don't know why they'd list different part no's. The entire front/rear suspension is the same v8~V6. Only difference is spring rates.

My understanding of the LCA's is that the V8 cars have a reinforcing plate in them. While the V6 ones do not.

Seeing as how the tranny is the same between the V6 and V8 (well, no, they aren't - lots of differences, but I believe they are the same length) the length from the TQ arm mount, to the rear end, should be the same. Anyone got a pic of the V8 and V6 Tq arm?

RBob, what's this reinforcing plate? I admit I've never looked closely at rear LCA's in junkyards I have the torque arm from my '84 3.73/posi/disc rear axle in the backyard somewhere... I could get pictures up of it. But we'd need someone who has their v6 torque arm lying around, too.

I admit I'm not sure either as regards what would be different. Driveshaft length is the same for all v6/v8 f-bodies that didn't use the "metric" 200C 3-speed automatic (v8=82, v6=82-83). The rear axles are the same. The torque arm bushing is the same. Thicker gauge steel, maybe? If so, I should put that v8 torque arm under my car!

Mr Dude, you can ask RobertG about the transmission, he successfully mated a V6 5 spd to a 305, however he had to use the V6 clutch due to the different input shafts. As for the V6 and V8 torque arms and trans mounts, they are the same, at least in dimension. I've had the L98 in my V6 bird for a few months now, and I've used the entire V6 suspension, without problems. TQ arm lengh is the same, mates right up to a V8 trans, same with the trans mount, and driveshaft.
