I won't lie my car should run better, and a good tune-up would probably do it. Everybody talks about it and everybdy wants one, but what exactly is a TomP tune-up. Whatever it is, I need to know because my car needs one, at least so I don't get embarassed by that 4-door Corolla with a header, exhaust, and a 5 speed at the track again. Please, somebody feel my simpathy and tell me what a TomP tune-up is.

TomP's Major TuneUp is the first step when you get your new vehicle. It is the first thing you do to it. I believe it is also trademarked, and patent pended.

The only thing I haven't done on that list is reset my TV cable and change my PCV valve. All the rest of that stuff is new right down to the K&N filters. I'll do these two things though and see if they make any difference, thanks guys.

Well hey, a couple notes here -

Just what feels... off... about the car? Is it smooth, steady, or does she have fits?

And what'd you run at the track?

Another thought, too.... have you verified that your balancer ring hasn't slipped? The balancer's made of 3 parts: inner hub, rubber isolation ring, outer ring. The rubber isolation ring deteriorates over time. This can cause the outer ring, which contains your timing mark, to move. Bring #1 (front Driver's side, not front passenger side) up to TDC of the compression stroke and make sure the balancer mark lines up with 0 degrees on the timing tab.

She throws fit every now and then, she coughs and sputters from the get-go, other times she runs perfectly. The harmonic balancer is brand new and timing is set to stock specs. Could a vacuum leak do this? I have thought about this, but she only does it sometimes that's what confuses me about the situation.
