Sensors, Valves, and a Mystery! (w/pictures)
Sensors, Valves, and a Mystery! (w/pictures)
Hey Everyone... It is well documented that well, number one, I don't know much about my car (however I am learning mad amounts of stuff!) and two, that my car has more problems then can be accessed in one afternoon.
Sometimes I am amazed it even runs at all.
So today I am just checking things out, trying to find out anything that can be causing the current problems, and I pull back the harness to the idle air control. (issue 1)
I also take a better look at the throttle position sensor, and kinda realize there must be something going on there as well. (issue 2)
I plan on just replacing the idle air control and the harness to it, that should remedy that problem, but with the throttle position, I can't say I quite understand what is going on. Yea, I get it, the last owner decided to put an additional ground for some reason, but yea... can anyone give me some sort of clue why?

Also, I am sure this is an easy question, but what the hell is this?

I have put conduit around it whatever it is cause it gave me a nice shock one day. If I find out what it is I will place it on my list of things to replace.
Thanks!

what kind of problems are you having exactly? the IAC valve is $40 alone. i replaced mine thinking it would help my idle problem.. guess what, i pissed away $40. check codes in the pcm first. even if the light isnt on, it will still store them for a while. that may help you for a starting point.

issue 1 goes to the AIC valve, top most sensor on the tb,
issue 2, goes underneath the tb & connects to the injector harness,
issue 3 has already been covered.
Any more issues, and it becomes personal,... and that's when we start charging

My mistake.. I was not very clear.
I know where the things go on my 'issues'. What I don't know is if a damaged harness like issue 1 could be causing any problems, and whats the reason for the bizarre ground on issue 2? Just hoping someone would have an educated guess, which is more then what I have.
As per what is my problem... I have covered this in other threads, but a quick summary would be if I drive somewhere and shut off the car then go to return home the car will start and die just as quick as it started. No matter if I try and rev the rpms or not. It will keep doing this until I wait an hour or so, then it is like nothing ever happened and the car is great again.
I have taken care of all this already:
Radiator fan motor (with new toggled wiring)
catalytic converter
oxygen sensor
mass air flow sensor
battery
alternator
starter
positive battery cable
distributer (with ignition module/pickup coil)
alternator harness
cap/rotor/wires/pcv valve/plugs
fuel/oil/transmission/air filters
restored stock timing
multiple exhaust leaks
Here is what I am looking at fixing next in an attempt to squash this problem once and for all:
Fuel pump (I think this is my culprit)
Intake Air Temperature Sensor (shocks you if you touch it)
Timing chain set and sprockets (never been done)
mass air flow duct (starting to chip on the ends)
oxygen sensor male wire (plastic holding clip broke)
mass air flow harness (plastic holding clip broke)
idle air control harness (issue 1)
throttle position harness (issue 2)
These two things I don't really have a reason to replace, but I figured I would just because of the condition of the current harness. (my frame of mind is if there is a sign of abuse, assume there was and act accordingly when dealing with what the previous owner did with the car)

dude, let me know what area you live in and we might be able to get together to fix some of the problenms you speak of...or at least figure out the right path to go. I have had A LOT of motor problems with my car and might be able to help you out.
