New Fan Off/On Switching System.

Ok guys, I have made friends with a electrical engineer. He has made a few little gizmos, test items etc for cars. He asked me of an item that would be nice to have for a car.

I suggested a fan off/on switch that reads from the ECT (computer coolent sensor) that would trigger my elec fan(s) off n on, on a set temp. This way, no added 50 bux sensor, no needed hole in the engine.

He said no problem, I gave him some info on the sensor, he did some testing this past weekend.

Hes already designed the system, ready to make it. But he is going to make it so that it has jumpers to change the temp. for changing seasons/habits.

Temps are planned for..
160
170
180
190
200

Can be adjusted in as fast as you can access the part. It is being designed to just tap in right outside your ecm under the dash. It basically just replaces your ecm fan system. IF the part breaks, the stock ecm can still kick in at its 220 or whatever.

Looking for feedback, intrest if you want one, etc. We will have some testing to do, is not ready/built yet.

BTW, how much would you be willing to spend for something like this.

Be honest here too, dont be saying one dollar. Say like 10,20, 30, 50 etc.

Aw, darn. It's been a few years since my "electronics" days... I had almost said a 555 chip but that would've been way off!

Sounds interesting.

But there are already a lot of people just adding a switch to the cooling fan circuit, so they have manual control over it, I do like your idea though for those that don't have access to a PROM burner or don't want to add a switch and would rather just have it automatic.

May I make a suggestion though? Maybe adding an input for an external maunal switch, might be a good idea.

Wont affect home installed on/off switches. I have them made for both my fans, the will still be used.

However, I don't want to have to expect my driver to keep an eye on the guages in heavy traffic. They need to be on the road.

I also have a HUGE problem with paying 50 bux for a damn sensor that is bad from day one. (to bad i waited a year to install it). Also, them damn sensors are known for going bad.

I prefure to use sensors that are already on the engine.
