A question about the catalyctic convertor
I removed the catalytic convertor from my bird because it was to old, I wondering if I'm doing bad by leaving my v6 bird without the catalytic convertor , besides the loud ugly noise.
I would apriciate any ideas.

1. It will smell better & not kill you while idleing w/the convertor back on.
2. Technivcally it's *tampering by keeping it removed. *= felony
3. Designed from factory to run w/one, unless you have modded motor to run w/o it.

you're right since I took the convertor out my car has been smelling weird, about the felony stuff I don't worry obot because where I live they don't care lol
. anyway i took it out because a friend told me that without it my car could gain like 20 hp, but idont feel any diference w/o it, I think my bird became slower witout it only, and I can't put the old one back, because it is very old I think the previous owners never changed the converter, and also the sound its anoying.
Do you know what could be the price of a new converter?

oh. yeah Im planing to put a convertor back in, there isn't any reason why not to put it back on.
i hollowed the cat on my 86 camaro that i have now, not much difference. If you plan on using the car to go out with friends or on a date then through the cat back on with the elemnt inside cause if your sitting it can really start to stank and then its alil embarassing

Might just need a tuneup; when I took my rusting-away-at-flange stock cat off to put my aftermarket high-flow one on, I found out the stock one had been gutted. Must've been that way since I had bought the car- and I always passed emissions at the state, and never noticed any funny smells.

Hm, I ran a gutted cat for about 20k/mi. Can't say I've noticed a difference between having one on, and not having one. Only thing that bugged me a lot, was the non catalyzed (sp?) smell of the exhaust which was pretty choking at times. Hm, also the extra noise when combined with the flowmaster catback... gah, too much noise after while. Much nicer now.
