To you all V6 PEEPS

Hey guys! I don't mean disrespect to any of you V6 owners but... I own a V6 91 bird myself and I really want the V8 power. I'm thinking about selling my bird to a dealer, I don't how much would I get for it, the car def needs a paintjob but the engine runs really well. After that, I'm thinkin gabout buying an iroc, how much are they these days anyway? What do you guys think? Sell the bird and buy an IROC?

this is the roc i found http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...or=&cardist=15

and this is my bird

A dealer won't give you dick for your car. Seriously. I'd be MAJORLY suprised if you got $500 for her.

That IROC? Depends on the engine... TPI 350, maybe go for $3k. TPI 305? I'd go more like $2800. Of course, that's just what I'd pay - it's really worth whatever someone is willing to pay

your bird looks like it's in good condition. Save up your money, sell your bird privately and get a good V8, preferably with a 350 if your looking for power. Don't go just looking around for any V8, there are alot of dogs out there.

Depends on the area too, and the season. Your car will probably sell the highest in the spring, so you might want to wait. I wouldn't sell the car to a dealer, you can get a much better deal selling it privately.

Its a nice car, says its been Garage kept, etc. Would have nice interior and stuff. It has a 5.0, which isnt as good as the 350, but its still nice. (Iroc's all came with TPI, TBI is the crappy 5.0)

How come you never MSG me on AIM anymore? im in need of a Daily Driver, i would give you more than $500 for it, i would have to look at it first tho.

yeah like they said above, it depends what condition and stuff the iroc is in. i just bought an iroc about a month ago cause i was tired of my v-6. it cost me $4500 for an '87 Iroc-Z28, 48,000 miles, garaged every winter. but then you can also find iroc's for like $1500, they're just beat to hell. good condition will cost over $3500

Didn't the base-equipped IROC-Z's come with 305 TBI? I've got a Camaro book that covers all years and it states that very clearly.

Why not keep your Firebird since it's in such great shape, garage it or let the wife drive it, or use it as a daily driver? They don't make these things anymore and if you ever start to regret getting rid of it and want a Firebird again it's a crapshoot when you're buying one used because you don't 100 percent know its history.

Dude, I'd keep the bird. It looks good, and I wouldn't trust a dealer who spells IROC "Iroq".

Base IROC engines:
85-87: LG4 (305 4bbl)
88-89: LO3 (305 TBI)
90: LB9 (305 TPI)

90 was a short production year with the IROC contract expiring Dec 31 1990, so the only IROCs which had a TPI base engine were a 1/2 year production run. I don't consider this ground for saying "all irocs came with TPI".. I'd call it a safe bet to say at least 40% of IROCs came with the base LG4/L03

Ok the car he linked to is an 86. This year, the IROC's came with the LG4, the 305 TPI (LB9), and a select few had the L69.

If the car is an L69, it would be quite a find. The L69 of that year was very close in power to the LB9. The L69 would also rev higher than the LB9. However, L69 cars in 86 were all 5 speed.

TPI 3rd gens are also very desireable. However, in 1986, TPI cars were all automatic, and they got the "peanut cam". If you look at the tech data on this site, you'll see that the horsepower is less from 1985.

Still, even the LG4 would have more kick than your 3.1.

And like someone else said, this time of year is great for buying a 3rd gen, but bad time to sell. Since they are in low demand with winter coming, selling prices will have to be lower.

Drop a Lt-1 in it.. Better yet an LS1... You'll have old V6 car insurance and save $$$ over the years.. In orlando there are afew Lt-1 former 2.8V6s around... They look nice under the hood.

Instead of selling it to a dealer, I'll buy it for $750, probably double what they'll give you.

Seriously, you'll get jacked by a dealer especially if you're not going to buy a car from them.

I don't know your position, but from the way the car looks, I'd take my time and collect all the stuff you'd need for a swap, and then just make the swap and have the low insurance plus however much power you want out of your 350

He is keeping his car, the paint was not very good. It had alot of non-matching touch up paint all over it. The body is in practically perfect condition, no dents or anything. So we went ahead and sanded off the top layer of paint and primered it, he is going to get it painted Viper Black (VERY black) next week.

The interior is mint, all matching and nothing is broke exept for the passengers side seatbelt thing, its also VERY clean. IMO the interior and body alone make it worth more than $1000

Overall, very nice FBody once it gets painted.
