Intercooler Mounted (Dialup Friendly(er))

One happy little intercooler. Still need to cut the top pipe off and reweld a section of it to point out towards the passenger side.. but at least she's bolted on. And I do mean bolted..

Thank you Home Depot.. 1/8" looking sheet metal strap stuff for tying joists together.. Weak enough to bend, but strong enough to make you work for it. Hammer, bench vise, concrete slab... yeah, they bent.

Unfortunately the Starion/Conquest intercooler isn't as wide as I'd like.. most of the airflow is blocked by the bumper..

So, going to cut open the center section of the grille/supports/bumper frame as stylishly as I can and seal up the front air box area all the way to the bumper, try and get a good full-frontal ram flow through it.

Stock airbox is gone and staying gone, since it would pick up warm intercooler waste air.. prolly end up with a ricerish cold air pipe heading under the driver side front area where the horn and evap can sit. Got a few routing options for the charge air, not sure exactly which way I'm going yet.. prolly bring the pre-cooler charge down under on the passenger side between the radiator and the tow point, cooled charge behind the driver side headlights. After the exhaust is done, the only thing I dread is the oil return.. I don't want to drop the pan =\ oh well.

If anyone wants to see the full barrage of high-res state-of-the-cars pics.. I got bored and snapped off about 35.. haven't had this camera in my hands in about a year and I'm going picture-crazy while I have it..

LOL, I see you're going with the same place we did for the downpipe.

One other note... How are you planning on putting the hood latch back in, with the diagonal brace there?

And what's the measurements on that Starion IC (just the core)?

The hood latch will take a quick bend on the brace.. no big deal there. Might have to toss in another piece to make sure it's completely stable.. look into that once it's bent to fit.

Core is 2.75"d x 8.0"h x 16.5"w ... it's a surprisingly tight fit with the end tanks and stock mounts.. max ~20"w core would fit on the existing end tanks/mounts, maybe squeeze a 23-24" core if the mounts were relocated... couldn't have asked for better on height/depth though

forget the latch and throw the pins on .... looks meaner (unless waaaaaaaay overdone) the intercooler mount looks good. Where did all these turbo guys come from..... i'm loving it.

I've been working on this since a few days before Doward started.. we've *been* here =P

And no. No hood pins. The latch is definitely going back in. The meanest thing I want on her is those stripes. Everything else is going to scream "I've got absolutely NOTHING done to me"... except the screaming turbo whine.. which I'm going to do everything in my power to convince to shut up.. if it's totally obnoxious, I'm even considering a cherry bomb as part of the primary intake tubing. BOV air is getting routed within 6" of the turbo inlet, and everything is getting wrapped or shot with rubberized undercoating or *something*.

Quiet on the set!!! Places.. Lights.. camera.. AC .. hey.. where'd the car go? Did you catch that, Bob? Damn. CUT!!!

LOL, yeah, Vortex and I already have ours running... just ran into a little cam trouble. Should be fixed and running next week, as well as already upgrading the turbo, and building a 3.1 specifically for the turbo setup.

As for a FMIC, I'm going twin eclipse cores, top/bottom fed, for minimal pressure loss through the IC.

YES! I love your thinking... same thing here!

Yep... just a 2.8 Camaro. Nothing special here, move along please...

wwhhrrrrrrrrrr PSSSSSSHHHHHT!

WTF?! :hail:
