Look up KED's "2.8 to 3.4 swap boogie". All the info you need is in there... I also had a post when I did mine and theres alot of info in that too... I have it saved so if you need it let me know.

a 3.4 wont look any different then your current setup.
That is unless you want/plan on doing the type of swap I did into my s10 truck. In that case you would need the ecm and tranny, and wireharness.

I have been very impaitent all day. I have the money and a ride there all i need is him to contact me and i will hopefuly have a totaled 95 camaro for 150 bucks . It was rear ended but that couldnt hurt the engine.

The 3.1 and 3.4 heads are the same chamber size.
The only difference is where the spings on top for the valves sit is bigger in diameter.
Unless your 3.1 heads are ported/polished, leave the 3.4 on it.

This is a very simple yet detailed swap.
Each swap is custom.
I kept mine stock for CA Smog Testing purpose.
Works perfect.
Be aware of drivetrain shock due to increased torque. What part was marginal is now, weaker!
All swappers report toasted trannys after the swap.
For my Blazer 3.4 swap I rebuilt tranny before the engine swap.
99% of all old stuff (induction/ignition/car exhaust system) swaps over to 3.4 long block without a problem.
Swap in the 3.4 supplied injectors, into the 2.8 fuel rail.
Rebuild distributor! Upgrade ignition parts, new timing chain.
Be aware of the recessed block plug in the passenger side head. That plug must be removed for the fan sensor on your current ride to operate.
Use ALL Original Vehicle sensors. ECM is then a PERFECT match. NO CHIP is required or necessary.
Give an email shout for more information.
Very worthwhile upgrade the car will now pull like a freight train! You will not win every race, tho.

I did a 3.4 swap... And my tranny hasn't gone yet. The only problem I am having with the tranny is it has a leak. And I can't find it....
On my Firebird 3.4 swap, it took about 3-6 months until my tranny started to act funny......
Then eventually I limped to tranny person with only 1-2. Followed by Wife in her 68 Camaro with the original 1-2 tranny! (Powerglide). Originally I felt/was told my tranny was good, prior to the engine swap. Hopefully, you're fortunate to have had a strong tranny originally prior to swap.
As I've said, what was "marginal" is now weaker, after the 3.4 swap. This 3.4 mill generates lots of torque where it counts.
The "leak" could be several things and not related to tranny at all. The trail just "ends" down that point. Check distributor gasket lately? Adding a Small Block Chevy Distributor gasket works wonders for that pesky leak.

I would hope anyone with enough experience to do a 3.4 swap could tell the difference between engine oil and atf, Karl
As for finding that leak, generally it's the pan gasket or the rear seal.. however there's a few fittings that *could* leak.. throttle valve, the electrical connector, seal around the governor, seal around the 2/4 servo...get it in the air and clean her up.. if you're really having trouble, get her *real* clean and paint the transmission white

I got my T5 used from the junkyard (firebird, 89 I believe)... its been behind teh 3.4 for probably 4 months or so... ~3800 miles.
It's been powershifted a few times... WOT shifting a good amount... driven everyday. Nothing has broken/changed.
Might just have been lucky so far, but just thought I'd throw that out.

IF a front leak is blown back by air under car.....
only tossing out a hopeful helpful clue.
Arrid Extra Dry is a powerdy spray that helps track leaking trails.

Spray deodorant as a leak tracker.. learn something new every day. Thanks man =)
Try finding a dirt cheap multiple selection at a $.99 cent store so it won't break the budget to experiment. Tracing Powder is the best but try finding that at a local 24 hour grocery store.
One of the BEST cold water engine cleaner?
Easy Off Oven Cleaner, the real smelly one! Works really well. May need more than one application but cold water washes it off, too. But watch out for those chemical burns, they sting!
Tracing leals suck.

Redraif and I did hers over a long weekend; we could have swaped it sooner, but we also painted the new motor and the trans at the same time, and swapped the cam/heads/intake/accessories from the 2.8 to the 3.4 (heads were already ported, custom grind cam). A "conventional" 2.8 to 3.4 swap (just changing whats necessary) could be done in one long day.
Worth it? Yes, IF you're looking for a little more power without the expense/hassle of a V8 swap, or replacing a dead/dying motor in a driver.
Redraifs trans is doing fine.

I know its trans fluid....... Its red and smells different than oil... I think its coming outta either the dipstick tube gasket, Or the speedo housing. I replaced the Rear seal in the tranny before I put it back in because I had to change the rear housing so I could use my torque arm... The tranny came outta s-10 RWD.

Make sure teh dipstick tube is seated good. Mine wasn't $ I found out real quick
. I just loosened the blot on the bellhousing & wacked the top of the tube w/a rubber mallet a couple times. Didn't fully seat, but it hasn't leaked since either.
