Has Any Bought PF&E headers or Y Pipes???
do any of yall have these headers or y pipes that are posted in this forum???? How much of a HP gain and Torque gain are we looking at??? Would it be worth buying from them or just waiting till pacesetter finally breaks in???

I only know one person who has bought them, that person is now banned.
He also hasn't installed them yet.

hopefully pacesetter's will be full length...PF&E headers are shorties. in my opinion, shorties aren't worth too much. i, obviously, don't know yet but i'd guess that pacesetter's will be a little cheaper anyways.....dunno.

there are 4 sets in exsistance right now. of course the originals are on my car. i am willing to do full lengths but no one has asked me. as far as performance gains i have not a-b dyno tested them. i was hoping to see some dyno results from the last set but i do not know if they put them on yet. i have picked up 4 miles per gallon with my headers and ported heads. it also has far more top end freeway pull with them, it used to strugggle to get to to a nice (illlegal) speed now it does so with ease. if anyone has a nice stock v6 car that is willing to come to michigan and buy a set of headers i would i do dyno testing and installation for free.

cool, i didn't know that you'd do full length. do they run about the same price as the others or more or what?

As far as a price on full lengths it depends on material 304 ss or mild steel and how i actually build them, but probably 50 bucks more. i was thinking of building some step style headers 1 or 2 step. this should improve both torque and horsepower over a single size primary tube.

how are shorties gonna give you more top end power? long tubes are better tuned. also, the pipe diameter plays a much bigger role in where power comes in than pipe lenght does. length can affect it but diameter does much more.

Redraif has a set, and we're probably the ones mentioned above regarding dyno tests. We've had LOTs of stuff going on lately that has prevented much work from occuring on the car, but if everything goes according to plan we're going to be installing the PF&E headers and y-pipe on her 3.4L 87 Firebird Monday, and dynoing the car immediately after. We went to the dyno for three baseling pulls (haven't been to the dyno since the 3.4 was installed) on Monday, and I have to say that I think this motor really needs all the help it can get in the exhaust department. The PEAK HP gain was minimal over the 2.8, but the curve is now flatter and the overall gain was significant. The real surprise came in the torque figures; a near 80 lb-ft gain over a 2.8 with the same cam and heads, and again a much flatter curve!
We'll start another thread after the holidays with the exact dyno results, comparing the modded 2.8 to the modded 3.4 to the 3.4 with headers. We'll also be installing a QTP electric cutout, so that will be tested too. BTW the workmanship on these headers is amazing, much better than you'll see in a regular off the shelf header. We'll also document the entire installation, with plenty of pics.

there are a whole bunch of factors that influence the power curve. but as a general rule the longer the tube the more low end power the shorter the tube the more high end power. big diameter tubes make power small make torque. shorites really can not take advantage of their length unless we get the 60 degree to rev past 9500. but they still provide power and gas mileage gains plus no ground clearance problems.
to am91 or anyone else if i do long tubes for your particular car i would build them with all the car specs in mind. cam, head flow, compression ratio, cubes, gear, trans and weight.

http://www.deadbird.org/swin/index.php?showtopic=8
seems as though the gain is mostly between 40-60 mph, i noticed a huge diffrence...havent finished the exhaust yet though so not sure how it will be when its done

We installed Redraif's headers and y-pipe on Monday, and we're taking it to the dyno tomorrow at 2pm to see how much it picked up. The headers fit great, but we had to have the muffler shop modify the rearmost part of the y -pipe (the section between the y and the cat) to clear the Spohn subframe connectors. We'll post the pics so you guys can see what had to be done. We also had a cutout installed.
