Will this give me more power?

Since I haven't sold my Firebird yet, I think I will do some more works on it. If I put a Crane PowerMax Camshaft, what will it do if it do anything? My car is all stock. I wan't some more power for cheap. Thanks

I've got the powermax 2030, and if you can go with a more aggressive cam, do it. This one is ok, especially if you need to worry about emissions, but I hear some of the
Crower ones are better.

I don't know what you have done to your car already, but unless it's going to raise the selling price, your just wasting you money just putting a cam in it. If you want a little more kick for not a lot of money try a comp. chip, or a cat back exaust system. Too many other modifications would have to be made in order to take advantage of a performance cam installation.

Wan, you've got one of the nicest looking birds out there, and i'd say don't take anything past stock....when it comes to selling price, you'll do better w/ a well working factory setup, than a modified one....when i see "modified" i think "less moeny, he's probably screwed it up" .... on the contrary, no one will know of the cam swap unless you tell them. So, here's the deal, if you do it, don't advertise it in the sell, let the guy testdrive the car, then he'll get achance to see how strong it pulls in coparison to other v6 models, explain how the engine must be holding together better than others, and you'll be fine...but never say "i did this, or i did that" unless you run a really highly recommended shop.

My car have 114 300 miles, and is all stock, so WILL this only mod increase, decrease the power or do nothing? If it makes the car a little more powerfull I will be glad. Maybe I will keep it...

The old timers "trick" is run the biggest cam you can and keep your hydraulic lifters. Kind of an easy choice most times.

Course emissions could suffer.

it will give some.

raced a freinds 89 auto.
Me 92 5 speed 3.1.
Him, cam, heavily ported intake, injectors, exhaust, no cat, chip, and 40 over freashly rebuilt 2.8, rebuilt trans with shift kit and vette servo.

Me, injectors, slight ported intake, exhaust, clutch 120,XXX miles.

I stomped him. Even with 3 people in my car, plus sterio equip, tools ect... Yes the manual makes a big diff, but this was to 0-50. I barely hit 3rd. From go I was 2 cars, and gaining.

Unless you really want to get into it, skip the cam. Save the cash for the next car, do not waste the time. With the cam alone, you will see very slight gains anywhere in the spectrum.

SO in all honesty, if you are look ing to sell the car within the next year? just don't touch a thing. Never mind the fact that you can open problem worms when you start the job.

The powermax cam only gives slight gains, and the rpm range is just like they advertise...1500-4500...you can feel it most up toward the top.

Overall, I'm with V6sucker. I added the cam and rockers and stuff and at the end of the day I feel like I wasted my money.

So anyone have a good mod I could do to my car for 160$ US or less? A mod that will give me a little more power... By the way I will have to do it in a shop 'cause I don't work on cars yet...

I agree. There are other options to resort to. The others have definite positives that would be more obvious. From what i've heard dropping a cam could help the gas mileage.

have you already done a tune up? how about a timing chain? if those are already done i would have the heads redone they usually have a bunch of carbon (fuel and oil) built up on the back of the intake valves. getting that fixed will give you more power and better gas mileage.

I would do the very simple things, CAI (350 intake), K&N's... port the middle intake. Does not require the removal of the base intake. If you add an exhaust, you might push 200 with that and above.

Scratch the porting and it can be done for 170-180.

you won't gain much, but at least it will sound better.

If i ever were to sell my camaro i woudl make it all stock agaiin i keep all the parts i take off. I would not buy a modded car because why do you mod a car to race it and if you race it odds are you put allot of stress on the drivetrain. One thing i cant figue out is why dont i ever see riceburners for sale? there are soo many but none for sale. I read auto trader etc have yet to see one in there only cars i see say the car has rims must see.

Fix them codes [will make selling car easier] and you might wanna start asking around for a guy that does paint job in his garage.

a $99 Macao special is ok too. A cheap paint job will look nice for 2-3 years. You may even find your self wanting to keep your sleek black bird once its done.

I think everyone knows a guy who paints cars in his garage cheap if ya ask around. A factory paint job is no better than a garage one. Both will be fish eye city with no wet sanding between coats. I scoff at factory paint. You pay $20,000+ for a car and get a $50 paint job.

You said you have $160 but that would barley par for labor at a garage on an oil change

Spend $60 on codes, $100 on primer and paint. Save some cash to pay someone. I know where you can get some nice one shot paint cheap. $35 a gallon instead of the usual $35 a pint.

I will fix these codes first. For the paint job, I don't think their is any place like this here in Quebec... The cheapest paint I could have I think is something like 1500$ canadian... Never did any body works in my life and I don't wanna try it, I don't have a garage, and it's -30 degree celsius outside... I would like to have my car painted black or bright red like my old GTA... A memories...

I would start on the code 34 first. Just fixing that will give you more power! If your MAF is bad Your fuel delivery rate will be off!
On your code 32, be sure to check for vacuum leaks first.
