porting questions

Well i finally got a rotary tool today and decided tonight to start my porting on my intake, and while i was at it bore the thorottle body some, well is what i bought junk, or does boring the thorottle body take FOREVER? I worked on it for atleast 45 minutes and other than making it shiney, i got no where. What gives?

Its smoother, so its harder to notice and kinda less for the bits to grab. However it is made from aluminum, maybe a heavier grade then the intake.

IMHO, I would have the TB done by a shop that can make sure the hole is round and make the proper thorttle blade for it.

well you would want to use 80/120 sanding drums.

Yes it takes a while. Just be sure to try to keep as steady a movement as possible, and count the passes you make so you can get them very close to each other.

The TB, is almost a lost cause to port IMO.

I take it you are porting the middle? or the top ports and the middle?

Really the best thing you can do is gasket match them to each other. Going port crazy without carrying it through the entire system Top/Middle/Bottom you are simply wasteing your time, as you will only create inconsistantcy between the ports.

You'll never get anywhere like that...

Stay away from stones and sanding rolls. Go out and get yourself a carbide cutter, the biggest one you can find. A flame shaped cutter, a teardrop shaped cutter, a spherical cutter, the rougher the type the better. Cartridge rolls (like what I imagine you're using) is for polishing work. To cut metal you need carbide.

They may but,

They aren't designed to cut it. Cartridge drums are just for polishing. You'll eat up the grit on 5 or 6 of them doing the job. Go out and buy a cutter, you will be glad you did, they cut the time in half easily.
