Clutch???

Hey guys. I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the clutch on my car. I have a 5 speed 2.8 firebird. I have decent clutch but i am wondering if i can adjust it to maybe get a lil more firmer feel. Is this possible.

No adjustment as far as I know. It's a hydraulic clutch, so there is no linkage to play with. Not sure what you mean by a firmer feel though. If you think your pedal is too squishy, you might need to replace the pressure plate.

The clutch is self adjusting. You might have air in the system that would have to be bled out.

how do you bleed the system of air. I haven't touch anything on the tranny since i bought the car. The car has 128.200 on it now. I do not know if the clutch is orginal. I know if i am rolling and i push in the cltcuh and push the shift forward when it is in first gr it does wine, but i think its because there is pressure on the stick. Right? Is there any way to test to see how good your clutch is?

A way to test the clutch/pressure plate is to rev the engine up to about 3k and drop the clutch (don't drop it instantly, but let it go pretty fast). If your clutch is toast like mine was the car will stand still for a while, while the clutch just spins itself away eventually catching.

I have no trouble there. Rev it up to 3000k and drop it. Tires spin like crazy. Does this mean the clutch is good?

Means you've still got material left on the clutch disk. It also suggests the pressure plate is good.

So my clutch should be good for a while huh? Is it easy to change the fluid in a 5 spd tranny. I heard so many ways of doing it and and people say it is hard as heck. I knwo everything there is know about my motor. I'm 16 and i had the car for 6 months now. I have taken the heads off and redid all the gaskets etc. But have no experience in the clutch/tranny department. Is there i filter there that should be changed? And is there an easy way to put fluid in there? Thanks again

I changed the fluid when I redid the clutch, so all four tires were up on ramps (the car was level). If you do it with just the front on ramps, you may not get all the fluid out. I talk about using ramps because you can't get under that thing unless it's lifted off the ground a little. Anyways, it's not too hard, but to fill it I bought a $20 multi-use hand pump (worked great). No filter to change. You could use the pump to empty the fluid out too if the car's not level. Remember bottom plug = drain, top plug = fill (it's easy to forget, I did).

Thanks. Theres no screen in the tranny to collect the lil bits of metal from recirculating? I do have a pump that i will use. How much tranny fluid did you put in yours and what do you recommand for fluid? Thanks again

I can't remember what the fluid-type was, but the newest thirdgen Haynes manual will tell you what GM spec it has to comply with. I believe it was close to 4L (a gallon) that I used, maybe a little more. There is no screen or filter since the fluid is just moved around by all the moving parts in the tranny.
