What is this PIC inside
Hey guys I was getting a check engine #33 which is the MAP sensor and i found a break in my hose, I found that they discontinued making this product so i went to Auto Zone and picked up some rubber wire to go up over it i had enough of the plastic wire to come out of the Manifold that i think it will keep it from melting, i ran the car around and the check engine light took alittle bit longer to come on this time. But it came on and I'm still getting a 33. So i figured that maybe this wire is the problem, what exactly is this thing and how do i fix it and will it fix my MAP sensor problem, if you need pics of the hose i have for the MAP vacume i can show you.
also does the length of the vacume hose from the MAP sensor to the manifold matter? thanks

If possible, simply remove as much of the plastic vacuum line as possible and replace it with rubber vacuum line. That line should be the line for the MAP sensor.. if there's a leak in that line, code 33 will pop, and serious losses to performance and economy can be expected as the computer enters limp mode. The only advantage to keeping the plastic line is that while it is still in perfect condition, it's smaller than rubber line.. once it's broken, it is irreplacable, and rubber line becomes the only solution.
Basically, remove the plastic crap and just run one continuous hose from the check valve to whatever that line is going to and get it over with..

tech, I know your not familer with 3.1s. But that does NOT go to the map. A line all by itself to the right in that pic goes to the map.
That goes to your heat/air system and the vac bulb under your battery.
Just replace that with a short section of vac hose, and youll be fine.

Ok I will do that if i add alittle extra hose between that, that is rubber, since it sits up against the manifold wont it get hot and melt. Is there anything i can rap the rubber hosing in so that it wont melt or do something to it?
Also with adding this hose should that fix my MAP sensor check engine light problem?
Thanks

I said *should* be for the MAP.. thanks for the correction. And intake manifolds don't melt vacuum lines, so don't worry about that.
