Got my hedders

Just got my hedders today (thanks go out to Halfpint). I have some questions. Will high temp paint be adequate to coat them? I'd like to paint them the same red as my intake (1200* duplicolor). I'll probably intall them nest week, along with the cut-outs and custom "Y" pipe. Just wated to know if the paint would work (and to brag J/K). Thanks

you won't know if you don't try. I"m not sure how hot headers get, however i do know that they get hot. We instaleld a set on a chevelle the other day, they were coated in black high temp paint, after the car being started and running for a while, the paint had burned off leaving the headers a brillant white. I do however know that powder coating won't work on headers, infact it's about the only thing it won't work on, and ceramic coating is considered the best bet for any header products, however they would most likely not be able to meet you request. Spend the 10 bux, find out, and report back to us.

that paint should work. powder coating WILL work on headers. i powder coated mine and they are fine. they make high temp powders made just for headers. i can do ceramic coating also. if i ever have my headers back out, i want to ceramic coat them, not because of problems with the powder only because i want them to shine to match my intake plenum and alternator.

news to me on the powder coating, but ya learn something new everyday. When we were calling around about powder coating prices, (prices are very good too) the places said they wouldn't do headers as they were the only thing that the powdercoating wouldn't last on, maybe they just didn't have the hightemp capabilities.

my brothers headers (he has an exhaust temp guage on his s13 nissan 240sx w/sr20det engine swap) get to 1400*. but that is on a 1991 asian 4cyl not an american car, so i am sure that will make a difference.
