Stock, no. Extreme chip tuning and modifications to improve efficiency, maybe.

35?

Steeper 5th (or go 6 speed), extreme chip tuning (like TechSmurf mentioned) or go with a 2.73 rear, and yeah, I think you can.

6 speed would be cool

but would it bolt up or would you have to change the bellhousing?
can you cange the bellhousing?

did any 3.4 camaros come with a 6 speed?

Somehow my x-woman pulled 28mpg out of a modded/whipped 3.1, loaded with 3 people. but... that was only once. Usually got low 20's.

I think it COULD be possible, but everything would have to be FINE tunned, slighly modded, with a tail wind.

Basically, every giving situation their is.

Restrict the exhaust a bit, make it run leaner, add 14x5" wheels, and don't carry any passengers.

I've heard of import 4bangers dropping in fuel effecient v6's and doing like 40mpg. :hail:

Maybe you can put in a new 3.8L engine?!

if gas prices keep going up that v6 six speed swap may be a thing to look into in a few years. - to still have a cool daily driver car

that would hurt it. you want LESS pumping loss, not more.

as far as the 6 spd, the double overdrive would require more torque then the engine produces... making 6 gear unusable. atleast at hwy speeds.

properly gear it for max VE at crusing speed, and you'll be alot closer.

whats even sweeter is having a engine that makes enough torque to maintain that speed at that RPM.

but since you guys have a V6, you'll need to operate at a higher RPM.

anywhere from 25-30 is possible but 35 is never gonna happen.
Unless you can loose some major weight. even a constant good 30 can / could be hard.

Gotta go small import or get a motorcycle to see 40+ on a regular basics.

on a side note, i got 32MPG from one tank of gas on a roadtrip with my L03.

however, the results were skewed since i filled that tank at a high elevation, and was at a much lower elevation when it emptyed.

but i still got it.

with a heavy load

I was hoping I'd see something about mpg's up here after being gone for a few weeks from the boards. I just drove from central Virginia to Atlantic Beach Florida where I'm now living with everything I own in the car...damn it was loaded down and full. I got 28.4mpg doing 75-80 the entire trip. After having done that...I'd have to say that there's probably a way to get 35mpg out of a 2.8, but it'll take a lot of work. I think 31-32 is a reasonable goal though.

my mods (at the time) wre almost nonexistant. it had been 10k since it was rebuilt.

I get about 14 MPG on a good day. F*cking California gasoline. And wide sticky tires. And my foot is into it always because its so damn slow compared to everything else I own. (It is my favorite car to drive though.)

alum V6 block + turbo = 0 weight diff, adjustible weight bias (you decide where the turbo goes) and more powah.....

adjusting the wastegate modulates the powerband to allow more tractable conditions for autoX....

do it

Try good ol' California oxygenate gasoline with MBTE. They claim it burns cleaner, But you use 25% more of it to go the same distance- Bunch of Bulls***

Course at highway speed in 5th gear most the time 35 should be possiable. But regular driving won't get close.

I'll try it next time with higher octane fuel. My tank was already full of the cheap stuff, would have had to run it empty first.

That and high octane is too expensive since I don't have a job yet

I don't know man that is super low. Sure you aint got a pin hole leak somewhere???

I just re-parked my Buick wagon. Even all tuned up n running good 14-15 mpg is all I could muster driving as easy as I could.

Driving my Firebird like a nut, all stop n go traffic I get 27-28MPH all the time.

You gotta have a major problem somewhere. That is allot of gas to be using in a 6. Most of it is either leaking out or I don't know how it would run but I guess your super rich. Though it should not run well if it used all that fuel.

I dunno.. if Dean's hobby of choice is any indication (and it probably is), an afternoon in his passenger seat would probably redefine the saying "Drive it like you stole it" for most of us... so 14mpg really doesn't surprise me.

Add to this the new gas California is using since they abandoned ethanol (and dumped their surplus on us.. yay.. like we desert rats really need a wonderful source of groundwater pollution) and he should be around 19-20 mpg elsewhere.

I live in Cali. Last time I checked, I got 25mpg, and that's w/ a led foot.

I know, I get 27-28 with a lead foot.

My 350 Buick get 14-15. If a V6 is using V8 amounts of fuel something is wrong. That or it better be a 9sec V6.

I know Cal and other state gas is funky but its not gonna kill mileage that much.

I've never seen a V6 F-body get 27-28.....EVER. Not calling you a liar, I just don't believe it, especially with you saying with a lead foot.

I could see 26-28 happening with a good tune up, tire pressure, and running without A/C on some high octane gas, not city driving mind you but highway.

I buy 5 gallons at a time. I run that down to the 1/8 tank mark or a little higher, fill it up again with 5 gallons and get 130-140 miles with each gas station trip. I would get 150-165 when I could afford ultra 94, when it was $1.50 a gallon.

I think mine said 133+ today when I got gas. 133/5= 26.6

I add a little as I know I didn't use the full 5 gallons.

Course I do just have an awesome car.

but n e ways.

My car does run 30-40 maybe 50 degrees cooler than most.
I have true cold air and its a stick. I only do around town stop n go driving. I do drive 50-55 everywhere, And I get to 50 as fast as I can then cruz. its 35 everywhere here in stop sign city, even in the country. Cops are real butt heads so I keep it to only 20-25 over.

I buy the cheapest gas I can find. But I did get even better mileage when I could afford that ultra 94.

Accell coil, plugs, Kem wires,TB bypass, no ac, no smog pump.

-

Things that should hamper my mileage.

I run 1/2 quart over full and run 20-50 [ 1/2 over makes the engine show full on the stick running. ]

225/60/15s at 40 psi [52 max]

My right foot.

-

I has also started to only down shift to 3rd when stopping. I use to go all the way down to 1st. It sound cool you know.

Short version:
Good tires with correct air pressure.
High flow exhaust
Tune up
Lighter shoes ( drive like a senior citizen)

Long version:
When my poor ole 88 lo3 camaro was new, it would get about 28 MPG on the highway.

At one point I used to work night shift and drive about 30 or 40 minutes to work everyday on empty highways. At that time I would consistently get about 28. (this was in about 1990 so my memory may be off a little. At that time I put on cheaper tires and lost 1 MPG.

While I was in TX in 1996 I'd drive home and visit MO. My mileage was about 25 at that time. I took it to a dealership and got an expenxive tune up. My gas mileage jumped up to 28 on long highway trips.

I'd recommend good tires. I keep goodyears on there because the cheaper tires sucked all around and decreased my MPG.

Keep the exhaust as stock or open it up with an aftermarket exhaust. I was actually silly enuf to put a cheaper replacement muffler and got rid of the dual outlet muffler. The original rusted away. This reduced the MPG. FYI: the exhaust on my car is single to the muffler and dual from there.

Make sure it is tuned up. I can't remember the 4 things the dealership changed but the car ran better. One of the things was the EGR I'd bought at a discount autoparts store (AUtozone). They told me it was not working as well as it should. At the time they returned the car I was skeptical about the repairs and the cost of $600.

After a trip from Dallas to TX on about 1.5 tanks instead to 2.25 tanks of gas, I decided that they had fixed some real problems. I managed to save the repair money in the next six months thru the increase in MPG.

Good luck with the quest for gas mileage. You'll have to put around to get that kind of mileage.

As far as low mileage. I've gotten as low as 11 when I lived on a highway and had to floor it to accelrate to traffic speed every morning to get to work.

I've personally increased my mileage my getting a sentra as a daily driver. It gets 335 MPG in town with a k&n filter and catback exhaust. (yes I have a soup can exhaust). The biggest benefit is that it makes my 88 camaro and 99 trans AM feel much faster.

EDIT: Man I wish that was true! That type-o should be 35 MPG

WOW! that's REALLY great gas mileage. If that's the case, we all need a Sentra as a daily driver!

yes it is possibly, but not completly stock. I consistently get 33 mpg on hi-way, but I have a crap load of ignition and emmissions and other mods from an incident that required me to go over kill. I got 35 mpg one time, but I was really stretching out the gas. I'm getting more like 30 hi-way now though.

I should point out that I do not have a lead foot, so I drive my car pretty conservative.

I gotta laugh, Yeah I even offered Karl (Ked85) I ride and he passed- Heck, my car's not dented and I have owned it for about 12 years. My wife does bitch at me alot always stating "where the heII did all my gas go".

My Chev truck get 8mpg, but that has 3.70's and about 300hp (and generally all kinds of crap rolling around the back.)

The Mini doesn't look to promising with the 10" rims. Heck the Camaros brake rotors are larger than that.

I think mine said 133+ today when I got gas. 133/5= 26.6

I add a little as I know I didn't use the full 5 gallons.

Thats basically guessing though Gumby. The only way is to fill it completely up, run it down to wherever, usually at least use up 3/4 tank, then refill ALL the way up and calculate. I did ONE TIME purely highway driving hit 24 on my V6, but that was once, and I don't know how it did it. Consistenly it was more around 22....same as my V8.

go 40mph, that is pretty much the speed to go to recieve optimum fuel efficiency... maybe a bit higher with our cars... but that and running 93 octane... My old computer-science teacher was an engineer in the airforce, and also had to drive 50 miles everyday to the base, found this to be the best speed. Something about the tire drag, wind resistance, and efficiency of the motor at a consistant low-rpm... depending on how much torque you have.

Someone should try driving 40mph for an entire tank of gas and see what they get. I just don't care enough about gas mileage to do that.. I usually get 15-16 city driving.
