Car: a car being parted out
Engine: blown up
Transmission: in peices
I do not know for sure the "biggest" but I have seen 216/216@110* 0.65/0.70 lift and required custom pistons.
THAT was a flowin' mother.
The one you have is a little over stock on exhaust.

Actually, the one you have, for a 3.1, is a good step over stock. About 2 *steps* up. It's equal to the 3.4 cam.

......ummm, Doward, that's the cam duration you and I have isn't it??? YUP, And it isn't really a 3.4 cam, the 3.4 share basically the same cam as the 2.8/3.1. A STOCK 3.4L cam is: Int .263 - Exh .273 Dration is 195*i 201*e That cam will give you a very noticable gain. Might wanna upgrade a few valvetrain pieces too make sure things work properly. I JUST went through this song and dance, so if you have any questions, people will help.

You sure? I coulda swore the stock 3.4L cam was a CompuCam 2030 - 204/214... off to look....
2.8/3.1L Cam is a .373/.409" lift (remember, 1.5 rockers stock)
I can't seem to find any duration specifications, anywhere...

204*/214* is a small cam.
The biggest I have seen is a mechanical cam made by crane, it is not for street use.
My crane 2-272-H hydraluic has 216*/228* duration @ .050'' and .454"/.480" lift. and If I can get 1.6 rockers I can get .480"/.511" lift, and the springs I have can take it no problem.
My heads are stock (except for the P&P), I used springs, retainers and different valve locks to get them to take that lift.

I plan on redoing the whole valve train so im not worried about the size of the cam being a problem. Is it going to sound lopey?

The lumpy sound is valve over lap where the intake and exhaust valve are open a little at the same time.
That 204*/214* won't have much if any over lap. It won't sound lumpy I don't think.
The crane 2-272-H cam only has 1 degree of over lap, all the meanness will come from the duration and that exhaust valve being open so long.
The smaller crane mechanical cam has like 4 or 6 dergrees of over lap, I saw a web site where a guy put that cam in his 3.4, there was a movie and that car sounded meaner than my Z28.
I said my heads are stock, there not I cut valve guides down a little like .020'' and now there .530'' wide insted of .64''
