Only one hole? So it's not 3 per manifold, like the 2.8's were? Where's the hole- in the y-pipe? Is it a big hole, like the EGR is?
You can tell how many 3.1 f-bodies I've seen in junkyards...

junkie, I am quite familer with threads as I worked in mfg plan for 3 years. I did not find any plumbing, or std threads that fit. I am assuming it is a large bore metric, which none of our local places carry anything that large.
Tomp, only one hole, approx 3/4" in diameter, or 19mm, very fine threaded.

Also, it could be a custom thread. Karl,
Here's a copy of the e-mail I just sent to Fred.
Will most likely have to wait till after the holiday for a response from Fred.

Hello Fred,
I am very excited and greatfull for all of the work you have done to produce the headers for the 3rd generation v6 Camaro and Firebirds. I do have a question regarding the CARB E.O.# for them. I noticed that it is listed for the 85 - 89 2.8L Camaro. The production on the 3rd generation Camaro ended in '92. In '90 - '92 they used the 3.1L V6. It is the same block just with a longer stroke. Is this engine also covered?
The other point that has been brought up on www.thirdgen.org in the V6 section is the use of the smog pump. It appears some cars have the air directed into each exhuast port on the manifold and others in the catalytic converter, and we know of one member who has it directed into only one larger port. What effect will this have on the ability for these cars to be covered under the E.O. #?
Thank you for your time and effort!!!

Is there any word yet on when we will be able to get the Armor Coated Headers through Summit? Also, what are your opinions on the Armor Coat, is it pretty well the same as Jet Hot and the others? Is it worth the additional 100 or so dollars? What do you guys think?

My guess for the coated ones is to do what I did.
Call summit, ask for KIP, extension 6511 I think, hes salesman 1314. Tell him you want to order the coated version. It will take a day or two, and he will get you price and time.

Do you have them yet Dale, its been 2 weeks hasn't it? Why is it taking them so long to ship them?
Where would I get copper collector gaskets? The only thing keeping me from ordering them is knowing how well they're going to fit. I'm dying here...

they said upfront that it'd take about 3 weeks to get them after you place an order. after you order, i think that they still have to get them from pacesetter.

I was told they would ship on the 24th
I suspect in hands about 28/29th.
I plan to install first weekend after having them (unless on piticular thing comes up, which I doubt).
I will do step-by-step install, notes, pictures, post them on my site. I also plan to use all hardwear given by them.
I will just have to have a um, adapter pipe made before I can drive it.

adapter pipe...nice...
I am most worried about ground clearance. Will the new exhaust dip down farther than the stock one? I assume there is, but is there a bung for the O2 sensor, and where is it?
edit: these are probably questions for Mr. Fred Gerle.
well...Fred got back to me within hours of me emailing him. He says that the O2 bung as about where it was, and that there shouldn't be any sort of ground clearance issues with the headers

When Mr. Gerle & I chatted about making the pipes, I mentioned ground clearance as a major priority of the design.
WHY
The exhaust system on 3rd Gens is REAL TIGHT DOWN THERE!
I also suggested boxing the pipes, not round pipes.
We'll find out soon!
I also mentioned clearance for us who want to install sub frame connectors (which I do so want to install, too).
Again, we'll see!

Summit now has a number for the coated headers. PSM-72C1206 sells for $293.99 ships on Oct. 10.

Screw the AIR pipes - did they fix the headers, to allow use of the PF52 oil filter?

Thanks,
If it wasn't for just putting a ful exhaust on the car about 6 months ago, new cat, lead pipe, tailpipe and muffler, I'd buy me some headers and put em on but having headers and a single exhuast pipe kinda kills the purpose if I put headers on anything it gets duals, unless it was like a straight 6 or 4 cylinder lmao.
